Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.
We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!
This question has been in the back of my mind for a bit.
Say it's raining out and you have no choice but to pull in the slides and head out.
We have slide toppers, but what about the slide sides? Won't there be water in the 5er?
Climb over everything and dry them off?
Maintenance tricks and tips, how you handle this, etc. would be appreciated.
Just playing devil's advocate...this has not happened yet but probably will at some point down the road.
Cheers!

I have rigged down during rain. (yuck) The slide seals on the sides seem to squeegee the water off the sides of the slide. Water on top of the slide has never been an issue, the slide toppers seem to keep them dry. I guess in a blowing ran, there would be some water, but our slide seems to tilt as it comes in, so most if not all the water would drain off the top.
When I had slide toppers (they have since ripped and blown away) if you didn't get the pools off of them they would run down the sides of the slide and get the carpets wet. Now (without toppers) water on the top of the slide only gets partially squeegied off by the slide seals and the rest remains on top of the slide inside the trailer. Some of the water will run down on to the carpet when moving. The bottom line is that in my experience pulling the slides in when wet will get some water inside. Not great. I always try to remove as much water as I can before moving the slides in but if its raining you can't get it all.
Unfortunately we have had to move a few times when it has been raining or wet outside. The sides seem to come in ok without any water problems. I never even noticed them being wet. I guess the seals do a good job as a squeegee. The slide toppers dump any excess water as the slides come in. We have never had a problem with water dripping or running inside. Of course, we haven't had that much water on the toppers either. We moved today and when we started to put the slides in we had some frozen water on the top that fell off and sounded like glass breaking. Scared me to death, LOL but it fell and that was it.
If we park under a tree or something that might drop leaves etc. on the toppers Mike goes on the roof and sweeps it off before we bring in the slides. This keeps that junk from rolling up in the toppers.
We've had to move a number of times in the rain and I can't say that water getting inside has ever been a problem. The rubber moldings do a good job of squeegeeing the top and sides I guess.
The best solution though, is not to move in the rain if you can avoid it. It ruins the day!
