Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.
We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!
My wife and I have been retired for 10 years now and have decided to sell everything and start fulltiming. From the different post I've read we are about 10 years of to much dreaming but still time to get it started. The house will go for sell in the early spring and hopefully we will be travelling by summer. Winter in Arizona sure sounds good to me. We want to buy a new FORD 350 SD WITH A 6.4 DIESEL AND A 5TH WHEEL. Have a few idea's but nothing firm yet. Rv shows are next on the list.
This is a great place to listen, learn and not get jumped on because we do not have the wisdom of a fulltimer yet.
First of all, welcome to the forums. And let the research begin.
Since you don't have your towing vehicle yet, I suggest that you check out the camper you are interested in first and then buy a pickup that has the capability of safely towing and stopping the amount of weight of your pickup and camper. Also, if you go new on the pickup, I'm not sure the F350 will still have the 6.4L diesel. It may be the new 6.7L for the new ones.
Also, depending on how big of a camper you get, sometimes the pickups with dual rear wheels will give you better stability.
At any rate, the fun begins. Good luck in your research and hopefully everything falls into place in the proper order. In other words, your house doesn't sell too soon and you haven't chosen a camper yet.

As long as you're physically able, it's never too late to start full-timing.
You're right, you won't get jumped on for asking a question here. The folks on this forum are real friendly and realize that everyone has to start out sometime, and the only way to get your questions answered is to ask.

Well, you sure have come to the right place! The folks here are friendly, fun and very helpful.
My husband and I are in our 50s and plan to hit the road in March/April 2011, traveling and workamping. We got our Ford F350 SRW diesel in July 2009 and just took delivery of our Montana 5th wheel right before Christmas.
Take your time to ask questions, look at lots of different makes of 5ers, do your research, and see what feels right.
Welcome aboard!
Cheers, Betty

Welcome to the RV Dreams forum!! You are never to old to follow your dreams. What you are doing is pursuing a wonderful lifestyle. We just started full-timing in August and it just keeps getting better and better.
Do lots of research, ask lots of questions and visit as many RV shows and rallies as you can. Talk to folks about their rigs - what they like, don't like. There are several really good books on full-timing such as: RV Living in the 21st Century by Peggi McDonald, Movin' On by Ron and Barb Hofmeister, Fulltiming An Introduction to Full-time RVing by Gaylord Maxwell and one of my favorites is "How Do They Live Like That?" by Judy Farrow & Lou Stoetzer, PhD
You might, if you haven't already, want to join Escapees (www.escapees.com).
Good luck and if any of us can be of help please let us know.
I'm gonna second Terry's comments about the truck. Pick out the Fiver at least to the point of narrowing it down to three then buy a truck that can handle all three you like best.
There are fivers on the market where your really gonna want a MDT or HDT truck because even the beefiest One Ton DRW trucks won't handle them well.
On another note when the Brideandjoy and I start talking about we "shoulda" on the fulltimeing question we look at where RV's have come from and while we "shoulda" it's probable that with state of the art 10 to 15 years ago that we "wouldn'ta" as it were.
Welcome to the group. Lots of info here and a nice bunch of folk willing to help. In April Ford will introduce the new 6.7L engine in their 2011 model. Which is a Ford developed engine. Ford stop using Navistar after a problem with the 6.0L warrantee. We are not fulltimes yet, but headed in that direction.
Welcome from Cris and I, We too are in the looking stage right now. We will be going to the Tampa RV Show and have the house on the market hoping for a spring sale and start to fulltiming. This is a great site for all of your questions. Hope to see you down the road.

Welcome. I too am just starting the research project. There is very much to learn but going through the different threads has taught me a bunch already.
You've come to the right place to start the learning process.

Dreaming and doing the homework necessary.
Looking at: F-350/Ram 3500 type truck, possibly an Airstream or a smaller 5th Wheel.
However, there is still time to change the configuration, just a plan.
What a great site. I can feel the warmth and kindness. I know that when I need good sound advice this is where go. Thanking you in advance. Larry and Gail
The folks here are just the greatest and full of many many years of information and knowledge.
You might want to go back in Howard and Linda's blog and read about all they researched and why and wherefor of the difference between a *weekender* rig and a *fulltimer* rig.... and Howard tells a lot of stories in between with research and learning of various things to equip your new home with.
There is a lot of great information here, not just the forum but also check the links along the side of the home page, and join us in chat during the evenings!
