Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.

We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!

Two years ago we sold our Class C MH. As we get ready to go out again we are looking at a 5th wheel this time. Already have a f-250 to tow with. Plan on staying at 28 feet or less. Started out looking at used ones in the 10k price range with hopes of paying cash. We are now exploring new in the 25k price range and financing. Keeping the cash we would have used to purchase in the bank to help cover expenses during times when I have no speaking engagements.
I know each situation is unique but I would like to know some of your experiences and what you think I should look for or stay away from in a 5th wheel.

I always look at it this way....

For near constant travel a MH is best choice.

For travel separated by one week or longer stays, the 5th wheel is the choice, you tend to get more comfort for your money.

If the engine or transmission dies in a motorhome, you're stuck either repairing or buying a new motorhome. If the engine or transmission dies on your F250, it's probably cheaper to repair and definitely cheaper to replace the whole truck than a MH.

If something catastrophic happens to the livability of a 5th wheel or MH it's cheaper to replace the 5th wheel than the MH.

If I were to buy a 5th wheel today I would add a couple of features to match the way most MHs are setup. I would add an automatic leveling system and an automatic roof top Satellite dish. My wife would want a dishwasher.

just curious why did you sell your class c?  what was it about the C that didn't meet your needs?

Actually we loved our Class C MH. But it was an older one, 1986 that had been donated to our ministry, and it just seemed like every time we went out it broke down. When we came in off the road from touring we decided to sell it.
Now as we get ready to go out again we already own a F-250 super duty crew cab 7.3L Diesel w/ tow package. So it just seems that a 5th wheel would be the way to go at this time.
