Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.

We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!

Wondering about termites in our travel trailer

confuseWe just moved in this week to our travel trailer, and I start noticing like ants very small, grey color has wings they are all over the places and a lot of them, Im afraid that its going to be TERMITES.The only details I could give you is that we bought it in Minnesota and brought it to Florida, and it was closed for a while. The problem right now is we are not in the conditions to pay for an exterminator, any traditional remedies o what to buy at the store.Im very concern about it   thanks .

If you can see termites, that means it's a swarm, usually occurs during hot weather. Eventhough you can't see them anymore, they may be munching away at your wood.

Take the trailer back to Minnesota, the cold kills termites.

Another option is to find a campground with an ant problem. The ant colony will kill the termite colony, but then you'll have an ant problem to deal with.

Just kidding with these solutions.

I've had success in using ant spray to get rid of swarms and kill the termites in the wood where I can spray them.

Prolonged cold temperatures will get rid of a termite problem.

I know this is a little late but I believe termites have to be able to go to the ground to live so the "wood" has to be in contact with the ground. The colony can't live above ground unless there is a way to get back to ground so I'm confused as to how it can actually infest a trailer that has no beams going to ground? Now I may be wrong but we had termites in an older home we owned so we did a little research on this then.
