weight calculations - are we right?

As it happens, my neighbor has a travel trailer that is roughly the length that you are talking, but I haven't looked at what his unit's model number is. They have 3 kids and a recent baby. Since I don't know the floorplan and whether it has bunk beds or not, I don't know how they accommodate sleeping areas for their kids.

Their unit is called a Passport Ultralight and it is made by Keystone. Keystone has a number of brands that they make so I would say to check out their website. Go to the Passport area and there are floorplans and images that you can look at. I did see one floorplan that looked like it had bunk beds, but I don't know how long or how heavy that model is rated.

What is important is that they pull their trailer with a Dodge Durango and my neighbor told me that his Durango is actually rated better to pull their trailer than their previous Ford F150 was rated. However, do your research. I also don't know how the Aspen compares with the Dodge Durango. I know they are both Chrysler products, but they may be a lot different with regard to towing capabilities.

OK. I have a follow-up to my previous post. My neighbor's Passport model is the 280 BH. I looked on Keystone's website and found that it is still a current model for 2010. The link to their floorplans is here:

On that page of their website, there is an image of a camera which is an active link to photos taken inside the different models. The 280BH is one that has some photos.

This Passport looks roomy enough. There are conflicting numbers though; on one of the links the weight is around 4100, the other says around 4700....wondering which is correct? Also wondering if this TT might be too long for our wheelbase of 119.2? Thinking we have to go shorter. We are also looking at the Forest River lines - Surveyor and Rockwood.

It is really tough finding something "light", say dry weight around 4500 lbs, around 24'. It seems the pickins get slim in between the 28 footers and then pick up with the 20 footers, which would surely box our family of 5/6 in !

On with the search !!!

May I ask what you ended up with?? We have an '08 Aspen as well and have been so frustrated in finding an RV option. We looked at the Passport but once we added things in we would be over weight so we are now looking at Class A's. I was wondering what you all went with and how it is working out. We have a 2 year old and we really wanted him to have his own "room' since we will be doing this full time.
