Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.

We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!

Lifetime of full time units

Curious to what would be considered the appropriate life expectancy for a fifth wheel unit as a full timer such as Howard & Linda?  Currently looking at an Open Range fifth wheel and wanted to see how long most fulltimers keep their units if well maintained.

I've seen folks in Hitchhikers full timing that are well over 10 years old.  Depends on how many hard miles you put on the unit vs sitting in one spot vs quality of the unit at jump vs care and feeding you provide it.

There are a ton of variables that go into this.

We are not full-timing, nor am I speaking of a 5th wheel, but we weekend camp in a 1977 Class C motorhome. It did a lot of sitting in it's life, but there's an example of how long things can last. We are planning on eventually full-timing, but see no reason to buy something different until we are ready to go. Gotta save those pennies in the mean time.

If you start with a quality unit and take care of it, I don't see why you couldn't expect 15-20 years of of it.

Before buying a fulltime RV look at the warranty.....don't take the salesman's word for it. Does it cover "extended stay" or "fulltime" use?
There are a few fifth-wheel manufacturers who warranty for fulltime use anymore;
1. DRV-Select Suite, Mobile Suite and Elite Suite
2. Carriage
3. Excel
4. New Horizon

Good luck on your quest!

You can add HitchHiker (NuWa) 5th wheels to this list.
