Figured I might as well introduce myself.

My name is Tony and my wife is Madonna.  No, not THAT Madonna

Anyway, we've been mulling over a major life change for a couple of years now that started with buying 36 acres of unspoiled land in Northeastern, AZ for what was originally going to be a "retirement" location.

Well, as with all things this idea started morphing as we were getting ready to sock away money for improvements to the land.    We came to the conclusion that we weren't ready to commit large amounts of money to putting "structures" on that property and instead were more comfortable spending money on an RV that we could enjoy anywhere, not just our remote property.

So we did just that, and purchased a 4x4 F-150 that tows a Starcraft 13 R/T pop-up trailer.
It's a pop-up that's designed to go to far off the beaten path and even has a forward cargo area for ATV's.   We picked this up at the end of July and we've already enjoyed it for many weekends.

One night while relaxing in our pool in Phoenix in 100 degree weather, we were talking about how we so enjoyed boon docking in our pop-up in the numerous Federal/State lands here in AZ and the idea had popped into my head that why couldn't we do this on a full-time basis?   I did some preliminary research and found out that it was quite doable, even if we weren't "retired" yet.    Work-camping, telecommuting, seasonal work... it all makes perfect sense to us.   We have no real ties to this "life" we have now, we both LOVE travel and new experiences and we're really close to being completely debt-free with the exception of the house. 

Our land purchase will be paid for in the coming spring, we've conservatively figured that the sale of our household goods will net us somewhere in the neighborhood of $30K; that combined with the aggressive saving that we can do until 2011 when we tentatively plan to hit the road, we can have our new rig (mid-profile 5th Wheel & Tow vehicle) paid for and a years worth of expenses in the bank to fall back on and fill in the gaps while working various short-term/seasonal jobs.

So that's the current plan, subject to change at a moments notice!

One thing is for sure though, we're both committed to exiting this "Rat Race" and living a life full with new experiences and doing it on our terms, not someone else's idea of what our life should be :)
