Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.

We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!

Older RV's and Motor Coaches not allowed in parks??

We took the plunge, without doing massive research in advance or based on any experience, left our J-O-Bs, sold it all, purchased a "new to us" coach in excellent condition and went full time in June 2009. I'm an online junkie and scour the internet for CG websites and reviews. Based on the "rules and regulations" I read, so many parks prohibit the coach based on age. I never realized this would be a problem! confuse

Any information out there regarding parks that permit older coaches? Any thoughts on the subject?

Welcome to the Forum, Millers!

I am confident by the time others chime in, you will have been relieved of your anxiety.

Yes, some campgrounds publish rules pertaining to the age of your RV.  This is primarily to give them an out if a real "junk heap" shows up.  As long as your RV is kept clean and nice looking, you will not encounter a problem.

Yesterday, while making a reservation for a week in a CG, I was asked the age of our MH.  It took me aback, as this is the first time in over two years this has occurred.

Congrats on your leap of faith into a great life!  Stick around and the goodt folks here will answer all of your questions, and even ask you some.  Again, welcome!

Hi Millers,

I'm happy to tell you that the only problem you have is that you are reading the "rules and regulations" smile.gif We are in our 237 campground right now and we've been asked maybe 5-10 times in almost 4 years. If asked, just tell them and add that it's in excellent condition.

Any CG that has a problem with that, I wouldn't want to stay at anyway.

Good luck and enjoy your new life, there's nothing like it.

The age ruling is more of a "No shoes, no shirt, no service" type rule, it allows the RV resort to just say no to disgusting RVs or disgusting owners. Most allow 10 year old or newer without question.

We stay every year in a resort that has the rule against older RVs and I have to say I haven't seen a disgusting RV in the 15 years we've been staying there.

By the way our current 5th wheel is a 1994, but it looks new, they haven't kicked us out yet.

The majority of the RV parks do not have a rule like this.

We've been out here for over 9 years now, and have never been turned away from a park. In fact the park that we're in now has a 10 year rule, but don't enforce it unless a junky looking RV comes into the park, and then they usually let them stay one night.

In the past year, we've gone from coast to coast and back again,(about 14,000 miles), and no one even asked the age of our MH. If your MH is well maintained and looks nice, you shouldn't have any problems.

Now, I have to admit that we never go to the "high end" RV resorts, but that's because we refuse to pay the high prices they charge, not because we have an older RV.

If the time come that we go to a CG that doesn't want us because of our MH, we'll be glad to leave. I'm sure we wouldn't like it there anyway.

Jim

Jim hit the nail on the head. If they don't like your MH...that is not the park you want to be in. So many people base their status off what they travel in...and so many parks base their's off the same thing. What happen to basing your status off of you? Believe me there are plenty of parks out there that will take an older RV. RVs that are maintained correctly will pass the 10 year old rule even if they are 15 years hold...I have seen some new ones that I would question...Have fun and don't sweat the small stuff.

Thank you all for your kind and encouraging support!

It's only been a few months but we love our home on wheels and our lifestyle. Leaving the corporate world behind us was scary but filled with the enthusiasm and excitement of children to begin a new life. We are adventurous and want to see and enjoy this beautiful country while we have the health and energy to do it.

I was trying to plan our first real trip and thought, "what have we done?", when I could not find a CG in the second city of our travels. Glad to know it may not be as difficult as I feared.

As for the gross and disgusting RV's the parks want to keep out, we looked at a few when we were searching for ours. I know what those look like and I don't want to be near them either!! One person's idea of "excellent condition" is another person's worst nightmare. Ours may not have the elaborate (and I dare say beautiful) paint and striping but she's well cared for and clean. So to each his own, live and let live, and let's all have some fun.

If you see us, stop by and say hello... We would love to meet you!

Happy travels!
