Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.
We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!
To anyone driving/towing an RV using a 2007 GMC/Chevy C4500 through C6500 a defect in the steering box has been discovered. (Don't know if this applies to other years)
It's not a safety hazard, more of a nuisance issue.
My C4500 steering has a grinding feel when you turn the steering wheel, this is accompanied by a low volume growl sound. Sounds similar to when you are very low on power steering fluid.
The dealer actually discovered there was a problem, I just though it was normal since it was a big truck. They replace the steering box, still had the problem. They tried two other steering boxes, still had problem.
A trouble shooter from GM came out and during a discussion with the steering box manufacturer it was determined there is a manufacturing defect that is causing the problem. The manufacturer is working on a solution.
I've been told to go ahead and drive the truck, it's safe. The dealer will notify me as soon as a fix is available.

What is the update on this? We are in the market for a newer TV for our 5er. The Topkick or Kodiak is our first choice. Also would love to know how happy you are with it as a TV. Pulling hills, comfort, and so on.
The thing about those C4500's is.. as soon as one comes up for sale.. it's sold! We are always a day late when one with low miles comes up for sale.

Paul,
It has been a while since the news at the link below came out, so things might have changed. At one time, GM was going to drop the Topkick and Zodiak.
Be sure and research this further before you commit.
