Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.

We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!

Colorado Springs, CO to Eugene, OR.

Leaving 1st week of August.  Any suggestions for best route and places to see and stay.  This will be our first trip.  We have a class C 28ft RV, towing a Jeep Liberty.

Hi Doug & Claudia;

We just finished a trip to Corvallis which is close to Eugene.  It depends on what you like to see but we took 160 from Walsenburg to Cortez; 491 to 191 in Utah up to Moab. Hwy 191 goes up to I 70 west to Salina.  Get gas before going past Green River. From there you have a few choices to get to I 15. We went to Salt Lake and picked up I 80 west to Winnemucca, NV,  then north into Southern Oregon On Hwy 95.  If you go this way get gas since there is not much in that part of Oregon until o get to Burns on Hwy78/20. You can follow the map from there to Eugene.  If you prefer the interstates the faster way is north of Salt Lake on INT 84 to Ontario, Or. then Hwy 20 across to Eugene.

You can stop at Mesa Verde, Arches, Canyonlands and Crater Lake along the way. There are lots of other sites on the way depending on your time.  It beats INT 80 through Wyoming in my opinion. If you need to get there faster, the I 80  to I 84 will be faster.  It is a great time of the year in Oregon with a few warm days and not much rain.  Have fun. Bob

Hi Bob,
Thanks, this was great information. We will be going to Corvallis as well to visit my son and family who live and go to school there.  If you have any other suggestions about RV sites along the way, please share if you have the time.  Staying off the major hwys sounds great to us which is what we like to do.  You don't think we'll have any issues in a 28ft rv?  This is our maiden voyage and we don't want to end up like the Titanic!

Thanks again,
Doug & Claudia

Doug and Claudia,

A few years back, we took US 50 from Colorado to California. Along the way, we did the Royal Gorge thing, and The Black Canyon of the Gunnison in CO. In Utah, we went to Arches and Canyonlands National Parks. In Nevada, US 50 is dubbed "The loneliest Road", but don't let that stop you. We thought the scenery was great, and there is some traffic. When we got to Reno we drove around Lake Tahoe and saw the sites, then we headed NW up through California and to the Lava Beds NM, and then up into Oregon and to Crater Lake. From there, we went up to Corvallis, where our son was at the time.

We had a great trip and really enjoyed the slow pace of the 2 lane roads.

Oh, if you want to learn more about what's along US 50, do a Google search on "The loneliest Road", you'll find a lots of info.biggrin

Jim

Jim,
Thanks, great suggestions.  Just looked on the map and I can see why they call 50 in Nevada "The Loneliniest Road".
We are definetely going to start out with Gunnison and then onto Arches, UT.  Will have to decide if we do 50 or go up through Utah and Idaho while the weather is still good.

Thanks again,
Doug
