Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.


We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!

Hi all! biggrin

Well I've been thru two weeks of moving from my 3-bdrm house into my fiver, by myself (although I did have someone take my stuff to storage).  What a job!!

I am now happily almost completely esconced in my fiver and I have a question about hanging pictures.  Actually I asked this before and some of you responded that I should just do what I want - i.e. use industrial-strength Velcro, like Howard suggested....

However, the folks at the RV dealer pretty much emphatically warned me against doing that - they said that if I use Velcro, it will mar the wallpaper. 

What would you suggest?  I tried the 3M plastic hooks that you can remove by pulling a tab, but they aren't heavy-duty enough to hold my larger pictures (I tried using 2 of them, didn't work). 

So....to use Velcro, or not to use?  That is the question - will it really harm the resale value of my fiver when and if I want to trade or buy up?  confusebiggrin

Roberta,

Assuming that the wallpaper is vinyl, the glue should be easily removed with Goo Gone or another type citrus based solvent. Also, you don't need a very large piece to hold up a picture. You should try applying a piece and removing it in an inconspicuous place.

Needless to say, if your wallpaper is really paper, all bets are off. smile.gif

Wow, never hit me that it could be vinyl. Actually I used one of those 3M tabs on it last night and it fell off because the wallpaper has some upraised areas in it. Hmmm.....thanks Fred - I will give it a try!!

Actually Roberta, being a nine year old unit that's been used (I suspect), you could have grease, or smoke residue on the walls. It would probably be good idea to clean the area before attempting to apply an adhesive.

We have always used industrial strength velcro, bought at the crafts center in walmart.  It's the only thing that will hold the weight of picture frames.  If we want
 to change locations or remove velcro for trade in purposes,  heat the velcro with a hair dryer, very carefully, don't get too impatient.  Slowly pull velcro off wall.  If you pull too fast, or don't get it hot enough, it will pull the viny paper loose or pull a patch of it right off the wall.  Just be careful.  If it's too hard to pull off, it's not hot enough.  Good luck.

Using the hair dryer is an EXCELLENT idea! Thanks so much. I have tried the industrial strength Velcro, however it still isn't strong enough to hold most of my pictures (they eventually fall off - have lost several frames that way).

I still have some Velcro stuck on a mirror that I can't get off, so I will try that. : )
