Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.

We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!

Can I hang pictures in my RV?

Hi,

I'm in the midst of doing research on full-time RVing, and I'd like to find out if there's any way I can hang pictures in my RV.  They are framed botanical paintings that I have done.  I have about six of them - they're not that large, about 10 x 12.

Any comments are greatly appreciated.  biggrin

Roberta

We have pictures all over our home. We use picture hooks on the top and Velcro on the bottom and never have to remove them when we move. A couple of them are quite large - 2.5 X 2 feet.
Good luck,

That's a great idea, using Velcro on the bottom!

OK, let me ask this: how do you put the hooks into the wall?

Since I am averse to putting holes in our walls, we hang everything - pictures, key holders, corkboard, clocks, etc. - with Industrial Strength Velcro.

We have two heavy pictures that ride just fine (we put the velcro around the entire perimeter of the frames).  We do check those every few months to make sure the backing (the part of the velcro strips attached to the walls) is holding up.  But on the little items, it's no problem.  We have to worry more about intentionally getting them down (the industrial strength velcro adheres very well) than them falling.  smile

You have to be careful using the velcro on wallpapered surfaces, but we've had only one minor tear.  Not bad considering everywhere we've used it.

You can get Industrial Strength Velcro at Walmart, Home Depot, and several other home stores.

You can certainly hang your 10 X 12 pictures ... if you can find the wall space.  biggrin

That's great Howard, thank you!! Now I'm happy (I was worried I wouldn't be able to take my paintings with me) : )

Like Howard, I do not like to put holes in the walls. We use the industrial strength velcro across the top and bottom of the frames and have no problems with the pictures falling.

We don't have much wall space to hang pictures but Sherri puts some of them on top of the ledges on the slide. Now these have to be taken down when we pull the slides in but it works like a shelf when we are parked. You might find this to be an added space for more pictures.

Hi all,

I'm now living in my 5th wheel and have been putting up my framed pictures with industrial-strength velcro - but they keep falling off the wall, and I've had some breakage.   cry  It is not hot here (I'm on the coast in Half Moon Bay) and my 5th wheel is stationary.

I am using a lot of velcro on the pictures - I have it around almost the entire perimeters of the frames. Do you think that wiping the wall with alcohol will help when I put them back up?

Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Thanks, Roberta

We use these type of Velcro hooks. And we do swab the wall with alcohol before we apply the hooks.

A well stocked hardware store like Ace should have them, that's where we got ours. Lowes or Home Depot usually has them as well. Or use the Amazon link I posted.

While visiting a fellow RVer a couple weeks ago, I noticed their unique idea for displaying family pix. The perimeter of their slide outs had a 4 inch soft fabric liner between the wood work edges. They cut their family photos to fit from top to bottom on top of the fabric and under the edges of the wood.

Interesting idea.

I'm running into a roadblock on my pix. I think it's because the wallpaper in my RV has texture to it, so therefore even the industrial-strength Velcro won't stick. : (

Our daughter makes us very light cardboard picture frames and decorates them with RV and family themes.  She loves to make cards and scrapbook so it was a natural for her.  We benefit by having very light frames that require little strength to hold them up so velcro works great.

When they fall the road is way to rough.

We didn't want a bunch of holes or hooks in the walls either but I wanted to hang a few pictures so I used Scotch Adhesive Putty. It has the advantage of being removable without leaving a sticky mess or damaging the wall paper or wood cabinets.
