Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.

We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!

Organization - Dressers?

My husband and i just bought a 35' travel trailer that we've decided to live in full-time for a couple of years.  Our bedroom area has narrow closets on each side of the bed.  i have been searching for something to fit into these closets to use as drawers/dressers.  My daughter's room has the same type of closet and she definitely needs a dresser set up also.

Any ideas?  is there anything that you guys use or have tried?

Thanks in advance!

The only suggestion I would have is to buy one of those plastic stands with drawers, they are light weight and come in many sizes. Like the ones in Wallmart, or Lowes or etc.

Could go to Lowe's/Home Depot and buy some L-brackets, screw them in and lay a thin piece of wood/plastic on top, secure it with some double sided tape that way you can make "shelves" inside the Closets. You can make them as tall as you want too.

Lowes and Home Depot also have amazing closet 'organizers' that could probably be adapted to an RV closet and made useful...

Good Luck...

You could also stop by a few cabinet maker shops and see what they could design/build for you and the cost.  With custom you can have it made exactly like you want and with real wood (quality).

I used some half inch thick molding cut to fit the sides of the closets and then cut pieces of MDF for shelving. The shelves hold plastic bins to put our stuff in.

Others have used the sliding brackets and wire bins so they can slide out the bin to see what's in them.

i like that idea too!  We're kind of in a smaller area but i'll have to see if there's someone close.  My husband and i have already discussed redoing the kitchen area so that i can add in more cabinet space.  That might be a good chance to see what can be done with my bedroom closets.

The plastic stand with drawers works ok, that is what I currently have , with enough room above to hang shirts and pants (folded over the hanger). But the drawers kind of get stuck they don't slide well. I like the idea of the shelves, keep them removable and if your needs change you can move the shelves. The only problem socks might tend to roll off, I guess you could always put a lip on the front.

Nannon,
Building custom cabinets is what I plan to do when I finally get the 5th I want. To me there are several reasons for doing this:
- The rig will be for full time living so quality workmanship is important for durability as well as asthetics.
- Building the cabinets to match the trailer allows for maximum space utilization, which is a priority. Also allows for customizing the cabinets to hold any "special" items you may have.
- Every RV I have seen, no matter how expensive, has always had cheap pressboard laminate cabinets. Theres nothing like real wood for quality and durability.
- While multiple plastic totes or bins may work for some, I prefer to have everything organized and in its place while looking presentable. This will be our home on wheels and I want it to be just that.......comfortable, organized and durable.

These are just my personal opinions, others have their own priorities. I plan on custom building a trailer, so my input is based on this viewpoint. However, "assembly line" rigs can be customized as well to pretty much any degree to meet your needs or standards. You just need to find the right craftsman for whatever changes you are seeking. Good luck smile.gif
