Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.

We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!

Film on our National Parks

An article in our local newspaper had this article about this filmmaker, Ken Burns, and his new film which is a 12 hr. 6 part series.  National Parks: America's Best Idea.  It will start airing on PBS this Sunday, September 27. He takes us to Yosemite, Yellowstone, The Grand Canyon, Denali and many other places.  It has taken him over 10 yrs. and cost $15 million, making it his most expensive project to date.  For more info. go to   http://www.pbs.org/nationalparks

Hoping some of you will be interested too.

Sherri and I certainly will be. We plan on staying in as many National Parks as we can. There is so much to see in them and some of the sites there are the best in the world. May not have all the hook-ups but they have the best views..

We are working in Bar Harbor this summer and about a month ago Ken Burns was in the area promoting this film.
It will be interesting what he has to say about Acadia NP.
Probably one of the smaller parks but being on the East coast it gets a lot of visitors.
Back on Aug. 17th we went to the top of Cadillac Mt. to see the sunrise, which made us one (other than the 100 or so  people on the top of the mountain) of the first persons to see sunrise that day.
We have it marked on our calendar.

I spent many summers RV'ing with family as a kid in Acadia NP, hiking up Cadillac Mountain and looking at Porcipine Islands, Seal Cove, etc. It's a beautiful place and going down to the docks in Bar Harbor for lobster was always a special treat.

Yes, we've been excited about this series for months now.  I can't wait for it to begin on Sunday.  The previews they have been showing on PBS look like it's going to be really good.  I'll bet it will really boost National Park visits in the next year.  Thanks for the heads up!

The PBS special on the National Parks is alot different than I expected. It is a history lesson about the beginning of the parks back in the 1800 and how difficult it was to keep people from destroying the land and the animal population within the set boundaries. It is a very informative special. This is one reason I want to be a full timer so I can see these great National Treasures.

Mike and I watched Part I and II but missed last night. I hope we can catch it tonight. It is really well done and nothing like what I thought it would be. It is amazing what some people have gone through so that we can still have such beauty available to us.

We have really enjoyed watching it and recommend it to everyone.

Definitely different than I expected. I guess I envisioned a 'Travel Channel' presentation of the National Parks. Nonetheless, an excellent series, have caught all three so far. It shows you how close we came (and still do) on losing our national parks. Have already visited Yosemite, Grand Canyon, Mt. Rainier, Olympic and of course the Everglades living in S. Florida. Making plans next year for Denali and Kenai in Alaska which I will ask in another post suggestions from you follks since I am looking at renting an RV for the 10 days I will be out there...

Yes. many times.  We love it in winter.  Where specifically will you be working?  It is a very large park and there are many places you could be working.

Thank you everyone.
Everglades City Visitor center will be our home from 11/15/09 to 3/15/10. DW will be at Visitor Center and I will be doing maintenance where ever it's needed.
After will head for WK in Faribault, MN.
Anyone been there?

We're not far from Everglades City (we live in Naples) so maybe we'll drive down to say hello!  We usually get down that way once or twice every winter.  We like to have lunch at the Rod and Gun Club and then take an airboat ride.  We've never taken the 10000 Islands boat tour from the NP Visitor's Center so maybe we'll try it this year.
