Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.

We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!

Update on How to tell the family we are leaving!

Hello all!
For everyone who replied to my original post with all the great advice I thank you.  Because of this (and other) wonderful websites we found the support we needed to follow our hearts and move our plan forward.  We have now talked to two of our children about our plans, as expected our oldest daughter was not too happy, after all she has a small child and wants us close. But the real suprise was the reaction of our baby who will be starting college in the fall.  She thought the idea was great, she said..."mom you deserve to do what you want because you have spent years taking care of us"  Wow, who would have thought I raised such a good kid.  I really think she was a bit worried about what I was going to do with my life after she was out of the house.  Now we have stepped up our plans to get the house ready to sell and we have gotten rid of tons of "stuff"!!! We are going to our first RV show this weekend and our daughter is going with us!
So for anyone else out there who is worried about what everyone will think or say about your plan to RV, take heart, if we can bust out anyone can.  You really never know what your family will think until you tell them. The main thing is to do what is right for YOU.

(we did tell our oldest daughter we would buy a home near her when we decided to purchase one......we just didn't say when)wink

What on earth is wrong with telling your oldest daughter that she is free to purchase a home that is near YOU, if and when you decide to purchase one?  biggrin

Well I can't say much about this because we are the ones living 4 to 6 months out of the year on our daughters property in Wills Point Texas...LOL We like having a home base set up to recoup funds for travel. She might want us to go away...but we wont...this is part of a plan to get back at them for all the years they wanted to leave...HE HE :) Have fun and enjoy life cause it is sooooo short

Tim and Robyn,
It just wouldn't be practical for her to leave her job and move where we are. Right now we live 90 min away.  We WANT to be near them due to the grandkids, just not quite yet. Our plan is 8 - 12 wks  on the road and then home for a visit to see kids/grandkids/parents for a week or two.  Now that they all know we are leaving they are really warming up to the idea!
