Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.

We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!

Rubber Roof Coatings

I've got a 4 year old MH with a rubber roof. I've had leaks on and off and have managed to caulk and seal, but it's getting to the point that I'm getting tired of this ikrsome job. I also suspect that the vent and skylight hoods are weathered to the point where they might have micro leaks.

I search previous topics on this website, but they only mention the caulk and seal routine or replacing the rubber. Replacing the roof is expensive so I was wondering if there is a product that would coat the whole thing more or less like one would coat around flashings on a house roof. Maybe even something like the spray on material used in pick-up truck beds (Rhino liner).

I was also wondering if putting a clear water sealer or ployurethene on the vent hoods would be effective.

Go to RV Maintenance and the second page. Repairs ......Howard used Rapid Roof 3 and the Decor Products are good also. Take out all your old calking and replace it around vents, roofvents etc.

TX RVer,

I had considered going the rhino lining route if our membrane ever gave out. Only concern would be the extra weight and effect on center of gravity. Don't think it have a big effect.

Cost is another consideration, I think it would be cheaper to replace the rubber roof a couple of times vs. the cost of a spray on liner material.

I've seen RV's where the owner has used the white or silver elastometric coating that is compatible with EDPM roof membranes and coated the entire roof. This seems like it would be messy and might be tough to walk on on a very hot day. Again the extra weight might cause problems.

Like Howard, I've used the Decor screening material and coatings to go over every seam and anything that looks like it might leak or is in the area of a known leak. I haven't had a leak since. Our roof membrane is nearly 15 years old and sits out in the Southern California sun all day, every day. I don't use any of the roof treatments and only clean it once a year with a soft brush and running water.

I believe the dirt protects it.... at least that's what I tell my wife when she asks why the trailer and truck are always so dirty. Unfortunately, she doesn't believe me so I do have to clean things up from time to time.

All> Thanks for the suggestions. I'll do some checking on each of these. In the mean time, please keep them coming.
