Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.
We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!
Hi my name is Janet and my husband’s name is Dan; we’re married and in our late twenties with two black labs, named Jack and Macie, as our kids. I’ve visited this site many times after finding it while doing some research. Currently we are in the Portland, Oregon area where I am working on a full-time, six month contract while we are waiting for our Iowa acreage to sell. Before we can get a fifth wheel and live out our RV dreams, we have to wait until our house sells so we are just living in a rental house. Our acreage has been on the market since August 2008 with no serious lookers yet; our patience is wearing thin. We’ve been married for about seven years but before we even knew each other we both shared the interest in traveling and camping. Up until July of 2008 we just didn’t think it was possible and didn’t give the idea much thought. However once we made our decision we started taking action right away.Within one week we priced and moved all our processions to our local community center where we had organized everything into a 3,000 sq. ft. space and successfully sold 80% of our processions over 3 days. Of the 20% left, 5% is being stored for keeps in a storage unit, 5% we have with us which we consider our necessities and the other 10% is still sitting in the house and needs to be sold.
After touring many RVs and fifth wheels we feel a fifth wheel would be best for us, there are a few plans that we like the most from Hitchhiker and Champaign by Nu-Wa. The hauler truck has yet to be purchased as well.As for a planned income, I have my own home-based, CAD Drafting service that I plan to take on the road with me as well as try and pick up 3-6 month full-time contracts here and there. My husband will find something where ever we go since he has been a welder, fabricator, and machinist for over six years, it should be fairly easy but he would also like to become a campground host even though he doesn’t know anything about it.For now we are dependent on the contract jobs for income. We look forward to hearing from anyone and everyone and definitely look forward to the day that we can announce that our house has sold and we will be becoming long-term, full-time RVers.
So Janet, you can design and draw up the blueprints for custom built HDT/MDT beds and conversions, and your husband could build them for customers. Something to think about for a business You might also explore custom building your own rig complete with a garage/workshop to hold all his tools/equipment and your drafting business. Sounds like you could design and draw it in autocad and he could fabricate everything. Might be much cheaper to go this route if you want a custom setup and have all the skills to do the job. Check out the following site for some idea:

Having the same background as your husband, this is the route I'd like to take if I can find the $$ and time, both of which are in short supply at this time I have many other sites I can send you if you are interested to get more ideas on what out there. Shoot me a message if you would like me to send them to you. Thanks.
That would be awesome and I know we would enjoy doing it however we don't have the large amount cash either that's needed up front to make it all happen. Sure I have my 3D modeling programs but my husband has no equipment what so ever or a good level surface to work on that's out of the weather. I think once our house sells we'll have enough to buy a nice fifth wheel and maybe half of a truck but we have seen these types of trucks out an about and didn't give them much thought until now. We would still very much like to see the list of the other sites that you have. Who knows it may just happen since we are trying to make it happen for rving. Thanks for your response and good luck on your plans.
Plan your dream and make it happen...we all have done it no matter what the odds you just have to stay focused and do it. Sherri and I wish you all the luck in the world. Hope to meet up with you on the road someday and see how everything is working out. Stay in touch on the forum and don't ever give up
Welcome to the forum - We also are looking to get underway and are thinking it may all come together in the middle of the summer. We have thoroughly enjoyed this forum and have gotten in contact with many wonderful people through it.
Hopefully you will also find it to be a great resource. Good luck and best wishes on selling your home.
Randy and Pam
