Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.

We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!

Pricing for a 2009 Ford -F-450

We went and looked at a 2009 Ford F-450 Lariat Crew Cab 4WD.  List price with all of the options is approx $63,300.  Has anyone got a price from a dealer yet?   I know thay are giving everyone the "A" plan price plus an additional $1000.  It seems to me the dealer should be giving a discount as well.  They gave us a price of $52,000 (including tax, title etc).  I have no idea if that is a good deal or not.  Everything you are hearing about the mfg needing to get rid of stock I would think it would be lower.  Maybe I am wrong.

Not sure how this got posted twice. confuse

Consumer Reports Magazine has a service that will let you know exactly what the dealer pays for any car. You can find it at https://ec.consumerreports.org/ec/aps/order.htm

It sounds high to me, but I haven't bought in 3 years. Have you considered buying used? Diesels are good for a LOT of miles.

Good luck,

Fred

Heck, for $60K you can have my Volvo. Turnkey. Use as a MH by itself or will haul any trailer made. :) Put your MC or ATV on the deck. pics on my website.

Thanks Fred.  It helps some, but they must not have all the options up to date.  They don't have the Lariets ultimate package listed.  The MSRP base price was off a few thousand.  They also didn't say anything about giving the customers the "A" plan pricing.  I thought that was coming from the manufacturer.   Based off what they say the dealers invoice is the $52,000 including tax is in line.  It just sounds high.

Jack,  I have seen yours and I agree with you.  I just can't convince my dh of that.  For some reason he does not want a HDT.  I would do it in a heart beat.  It is his truck and I will let him get what he wants.  He went with the RV I wanted.  We have a year or 2 before we will start selling and I don't think he wants to have a HDT for an everyday truck.

An HDT is likely not a great everyday truck for a sticks and bricks situation. Especially if it is your only vehicle for that driver and you are still working. We used ours as a daily driver for 3 years - no other vehicle - but we were fulltiming and that is quite differerent.

You should have your hubby look at some of the HDTs when you get closer to fulltime. The attraction of a Smart On Board or a MC (or 2) plus all the storage you want with no consideration for weight might change his mind. Plus, if you have not been around an RV hauler then you really don't have an appreciation for what can bee done and how nice the HDTs with automated trans are to drive. They are the same footprint on the road as an F550 CC for the most part, and turn better.

But not for everyone, for sure.....

I think we are going to wait for now. Maybe when we get closer I can convince him to get an HDT.

Hi Yall

I have been looking at different forums, Escapees, RVNet...about trucks to haul a fifth wheel.
It is funny that there are a lot of couples who one of them is willing to at least consider an HDT and the other completely rules it out.

I myself think we should at least take a looky see, test drive of something HDT.  Maybe it isn't as overwhelmingly big as we thought.  One thing I have on my side is that he doesn't want to spend a huge amount on a truck so an HDT would fall into that catagory I think over a Ford 450  550 or 650.

So I ask you,  how can the spouse that is opened to an HDT,me:) get the other opposed spouse, him:( to get up in the seat and take the HDT ride?

Also, which HDT would be the best beginner truck to experience?

I know the fifth wheel we have picked out is going to weigh 20000 lbs. and Im not going to ride over the western mountain passes with him in his lightweight weeny truck!! no

Thanks from the South
Dixie

Dixie,

There are a couple of ways to explore if an HDT is right for both of you.

First, you could find someone in a local campground that has an HDT and arrange to talk to them. We are in Summerdale, AL for example. If you are going to the Tampa RV show in Jan there will be many of us there.

Second, and what I really recommend as the best option, is to go to the HDT Rally in Hutchinson, KS in Oct. You canfly or drive in and stay in a hotel. Every year several people do that. Yes, it costs some money, but it is an educational investment. You will be spending around $50K on any tow vehicle for a 20K trailer. You want to get it right the first time if you can. Consider it an investment. Plus you get to meet lots of fulltimers and also see their rigs and what they have done to them. See cars being carried on deck, see motorcyles on deck, and lots of different storage options. You will both get to drive various HDTs as well.

In the end, you may decide an HDT is not for you. But you should fully understand your options before deciding that.

Thanks Jack

We had planned on going to the Tampa show but found out I am going to have surgery Jan. 13th so that blew those plans. Nothing serious but it will be February before we can get on the road to go anywhere. The campground idea may work best first.  If you or anyone else find yourself driving your HDT through NW Atlanta, I75,  sometime maybe we could meet up and check out your rig.  That would be fun.
The HDT show sounds good.  We could plan it while visiting some rv manufactures in Kansas.

Does anyone know when the next big rv show like Tampa's will be ?

Dixie
