Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.

We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!

Rapidly Approaching Fulltiming Newbies!!

Hi there!  After finally getting around to reading thru Howard and Linda's RV Forum, decided to avoid being a 'Lurker"!  My name is Sherry and the hubby's name is Mark.  We've lived in the Dallas Texas metroplex our entire lives and currently live just East of downtown Dallas.  I just retired from AT&T (Yipppeee!!) and the hubby will be free by the end of January 2009.  We've dreamed of hitting the road in an RV with no set plan other than North/East/South or West, for 32 years.  We plan to hit the road as fulltimers by mid-February.  We're also very fortunate in that we 'both' want to do this, so we don't have some of the issues and challenges that many others are commenting on in other posts on this forum.

We're still investigating which Fifth Wheel and subsequent tow vehicle we'll purchase.  We hope to purchase a new Fifth Wheel already built with many of the items we wish to have already included, to take full advantage of the current economic downturn.  Hopefully we'll get some great feedback.  But, just wanted to say Hello to the RV-Dreamer forum group!

We can't wait for this wonderful journey to begin!  We hope to see you down the road!~

Welcome to the greatest lifestyle. We left Grand Prairie 2 1/2 years ago and have never looked back. RVers, for the most part, are the nicest and friendliest people on Earth. This forum is a great example of how friendly and helpful RVers are. Have fun and travel safe.

Welcome Mark and Sherry. smile

This is a great web site to learn all about Full-timing. Be sure to ask, if you have questions you can't find answers to.

There's a great bunch of people here that are more than willing to help.

Jim

Sure does sound like lots of us start the next adventure in Mid February. I think end of January might be a popular time to retire because of any benefit given during that month.

Both DH and I get our 2009 three week vacations in January that will be paid out at the end of the month. He also gets his 2009 sick days paid out plus 1/2 of those he has in his "pot".

Also my employer puts 3% of my gross 2008 wage into my profit sharing account provided I am employed with them in January on the date it is funded. So rather than retire end of 2008, we chose to stick it out one month and walk away with a much better package.

I would be willing to bet this is the case with lots of folks.

Welcome to the forum.  There is much to learn here.

My wife, Jo, and I live in the Oklahoma City area.  I imagine you will find many others that either live in the same region or have similar interests.

Enjoy.

Terry

Mark and Sherry this is Joe and Sherri and we live in Carrollton. We are fulltiming here at Sandy Lake RV resort. We have been here going on three years and at the end of May we will be retiring. We have a 5th wheel and if we can be of any assistance to you please give us a shout. Not sure how far out of Dallas you live but we have a place at Wills Point Texas that will be used as our base camp. Look forward hearing from you.

Hi Mark and Sherry -
Congratulations on your upcoming retirement.
We have been looking at full timing for a little over 15 months and hopefully will be headed that way after our house sells. We will put it on the market on April 16.

We have gone back and forth on a mortorhome or fifthwheel and are back to a class A motorhome. While we were researching 5th wheels, we were convinced a great one is the Carri-Lite Carriage (see my Mar 22 post in my blog).

Welcome to the forum. You won't find a more friendly bunch.

Randy

Us too.  We were leaning towards the 5er when we came upon a consignment sale for a one year old Country Coach.  It had the 'it' factor for us, so we jumped on it.  No regrets.  Going with the MH solved our dilemma  about how to take our Goldwing along with us, too.  Most 5ers can't handle a lift on the back for a bike that size, but most MHs can.

thanks Joe.  We live in Forney...just a short hop from Wills Point.  Actually, my parents had a lake house in Wills Point, can't remember exactly where...that was years ago--but gosh, you guys are really close by.

We're kind of following more in line with the way Howard and Linda moved into full-timing.  We've never owned an RV or done any camping to speak of (unless you count the parent's old lake house biggrin)...but we've always dreamed of retiring early in an RV and just traveling the country.  We're going to the upcoming Houston and San Antonio RV shows and will be purchasing our fifth wheel by mid-January.  Thanks for the offer, everyone is so helpful!~

Hi Mark & Sherry, welcome to the best forum.  You will certainly be able to learn alot here.  I retired 1 1/2 yrs. ago.  DH will retire next summer.  We won't be full timers but hopefully half timers or better yet 3/4 timers.  Ask all the questions you need, we have lots of smart campers here.
