Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.

We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!

On the road for GA next weekend

I pick up my Fleetwood (Terry) 27 TT with deep sofa slide-out next wednesday and will be on the road by Sunday next for a Tennessee visit with family then off to Brunswick, GA for my 10 month hiatus working for FLETC.
After that it will be 2 months back in Michigan and then who knows (woohoo!)...
The TT is a 97 in brand new condition. Really. Brand new condition... Non-smoker owned. Great floorplan. HWmotorhomes has been very accomodating and we did a thorough inspection based on a ton of info learned from you guys mostly.
So for stage 1 of my new lifestyle I am starting out with a very small dent in the finances with a 97 model 27' TT and 99' E350 Ford 6.7 V10 (also like new) all paid for and they are going to pay me $600.00 per month lodging on top of my usual contractor fee so the RV park is paid for plus...
I think I can really get a feel for this lifestyle (I'm solo with 2 small dogs) with what I am starting out with and can easily expand/upgrade from here.
I reserved a space at Golden Isle for now and I will call Blythe Island weekly hoping to move over there as soon as possible. Looks like bicycle distance to FLETC from my new "home" so that will really be a plus if the Georgians are considerate of us bikers down there... I ride year-round even here in frozen Michigan so Brunswick should be very nice for winter riding.
Oh yeah, I checked my E350 mileage driving it unloaded and got exactly 14 MPG. Better than anticipated. Probably get 6 to 8 pulling a load.............
So I also got an AT&T 3G aircard and service so I can work from anywhere. It works very well here in southern Mich.
Wish me luck and I hope to meet absolutely every one of you along the way someday!
David.

Congrats, David!  Looks like you are headed down this way.  As far as the bicycle ride, it appears to be between 11 and 12 miles.  That is surely doable, but most of this distance is two lane highway at 50 - 60 mph traffic.  Have you been there?

Depending upon the time of your "peddle home", it could be dark, and that definitely would be questionably safe.

There is one extremely tall bridge, and I am not sure GA law allows bicycle traffic over it.  If you wish, I will check this out for you.

At 14 mpg, it may well be worth the cost of two gallons a day to safely drive the truck.

Charles

Hey Charles! I was hoping to hear from you again.
Well 11 or 12 miles is hardly worth dressing up for but I sure would like to ride it.
If not then I may well be truckin it then huh?
I'll give you a shout when I get there.

David,

Glad to see it has all worked out for you. I may be coming down to FLETC for December and will be using my MH. I was wondering how do you like Golden Isles CG? I am thinking of trying that CG out this time. Does it look like they have many sites and what are the rates?

I hope to hear by next week about my FLETC trip so I can make reservations.

We'll have to hook up, I'll be doing this trip solo, too. Supposed to teach at the NCIS/CGIS Academy.

Best Regards!

Hi Paul. Don't know yet as I won't be there until Nov. 29th but from the latest reviews I don't know if it is really all that great.
I am going to be calling Blythe Island CG every week awaiting a full hookup space to become available over there as I hear it is very nice.
When you get ready to come down shoot me a PM and I wll give you my cell phone number so we can get together for dinner or something.

David,

I will let you know as soon as I hear back from the powers-that-be one way or the other.  Supposedly the travel budget is currently restricted so I'll have to wait and see how important it is for me to be there. confused

Was there in Sept and it was HOT!  Looking forward to cooler weather this time. biggrin

Have a safe trip, check those tire pressures before you go.  I'll stay in touch.

Paul

David,

Got the word this AM. Not going in December but will be there 2 Feb to 19 Apr 09. That actually works better for me. See you then.
