Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.
We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!
Can someone please tell me if they have a fiver with slides if you can replace the carpet with Wood or Tile flooring? DH says it would scratch if you have slide outs and replaced it with wood or tile floors. southwestjudy
I was on a coach in Maine two weeks ago where the guy had replaced the carpet with Pergo wood floor boards. He placed small throw rugs on the wood floor at the edge of the slide. When the slide rose up and began to come over the wood, it rested on the throw rugs and pushed them in with the slide.
When the slide was extended, the rugs remained and the floor was not damaged in the least. He made the transition over a year ago. Really looked nice!

We just replaced our carpet with laminate flooring. We had drag marks on the carpet before we took it out so the installers suggested we use Slide-Out Slicker by Quick Draw Products. It's a hard plastic runner with soft rubber pads on the back. To use it, you hook one end under the slide lip before you bring it in. The silde then will ride on the treshold created by the Slide-Out Slicker, protecting the floor. It wooks great.
Also, you can't, in most cases use laminate or hardwood on top of the slide-out floor.
Thanks for the info here, I cked Cat & Bryan's and it is beautiful. Bob also thanks for the suggestion of Slide-Out-Slicker going to ck into the product. This is what I like about this forum when asking questions usually someone has an answer. Thanks guys! southwestjudy
My temporary neighbor, Bob, had retained the carpet over the slide. He gave no reason, but I must assume that the transition from wood to wood would not mesh well, where the threads of the carpet, or in his case, a 2" flap of carpet covered the seam well.
Dr. Bob, great information on the Slide-Out Slicker product. Wonder if you care to comment on your statment why you can't use the wood product on the slide floor area. Is my read on the transition area the reason? Bob, what laminate product did you use?
Judy, you are most on target with your statement about the wealth of knowledge, and more importantly, the experiences with that knowledge within our "family"!
Thanks to all who freely share.

Well I was always wondering if it could be done and have questioned DH on the subject. Now that I know it can be done we may look into it further " on down the road". Carpeting is an upkeep when living full time is this small space and we have 2 doggies as well that have not been naughty our carpet and its good to know a change can be made. southwestjudy
The problem with most slideouts, ones with a flat floor, is there is no way to finish the edge as most have the plastic or sheet metal flap that settles to the floor when the slide is out.
Sonny, we got the toppers from Turnning Wheel RV: aka Monaco Service Center in Elkhart, IN.
Ours went in great. We love it. Be sure to check the thickness before install to make sure you have clearance. We chose a natural maple with heavy graining to contrast the natural maple cabinets. We also had maple valances installed to replace the fabric ones. We really changed the look of the interior.
Brad and Hall in Elkhart did the install, not sure of the brand.
Bob, thanks, laminate sounds like the way to go, however we travel with a large Maine Coon cat and are wondering how laminate would be with all the scratching, etc.
Thanks Bob, everyone on forum has good information to pass along and we have learned a lot also from the live chat forum every night. How resistent is laminate to moisture? Not sure if we should do this or not, carpet doesn't seem to hold up very long though. We have heard some definate pros and cons for the laminate. Did you laminate entire coach, i.e. bathroom too, and leave carpet in bedroom area?
I think most service centers will tell you they can do it but I've seen big differences in the fit and finish. The quality for the workmanship can vary alot. One area I saw was around the door and steps and how they would trim that out. I would check online for renovators in areas where you will travel. I feel they will give you a much better job. If plan to travel near Elkhart, In. I highly recommend Brad and Hall to do your floors. Jason is a flooring installation expert. We also had an Amish cabinet maker make new base trim to match what was already in the coach. Very, very pleased with the out come. Will have some before and after pic on the blog soon.
Amish do such beautiful woodworking I'm sure they did a great job for you. Thanks for all your info, nice talking to ya. Will go to Live Chat later and hopefully get more info on several issues we have concerns about. Good place to learn a lot.
If you would like to see some of the before and after photos of the maple flooring, we posted a few tonight. Click here http://moonriverandwe.blogspot.com/ to see the photos. Click on the photos for a larger view. We'll post more when everything is complete!
We had a computer console/end table manufactured by Brad & Hall earlier this year. We sent a sample of the dark cherry from a drawer face, and they matched the tone precisely. Great quality, and they are great to work with. Brandon was a prince of a guy and everything that was stated was done, better than expected and on time.
I am sure they could really do a great job on a floor.

Hope all is well with you 2. I hear you are meeting up with Ellie and Jim in SC. Have a good time.
We really enjoyed working with Brad and Hall on our floors and we also brought a Euro Recliner from them.
Most all their cabinetry is made by Focal Wood of Napannee. Carlisle Lehmann is the owner and great to work with. He made us a file cabinet and the valances. We even picked him up and had him install the Valances on site here at Monaco Service Center. He even made the floor trim to match what was already in the MH. Not to cut Brad and Hall out of a sale, but you can go to Focal Wood and work directly with Carlisle.
We have Laminate in many rooms in our stix-n-brix, and it's way less work than the carpeted rooms. Can't see where it would be any different in an RV. Would like to add that water IS a problem only if it is allowed to remain on floor for an extended time.
