Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.

We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!

Blythe Island near Brunswick GA

Any experience with getting a spot with sewer hook-up in this park please? I may be able to accelerate my plans to full-timing it as I have been offered a 12 month contract at FLETC (I am a telecom software specialist semi-retired working as a contractor) But I am concerned that it may be late in the year to get a spot at this park.
The other thing I was wondering about please is pets... Does anyone have any experience getting a dog-sitter in parks? My two small dogs could not go with me to work but the Blythe campground policy is no unattended pets.
Sorry for the questions but I am so green about all this!
Thanks,
David.

I would think that a call directloy to the park would be your best chance of getting solid information on site availability. Any information that we would have would be dated.

I think the rule against unattended pets is for pets chained outside that bark at anyone passing by. I think you can leave pets inside your rig if you wish.

You might also want to check http://www.rvparkreviews.com/ to see what other campgrounds are in the area.

Good luck,
Fred

David,

I spend alot of time visiting FLETC as a guest instructor. I'm looking at a 10 week stay beginning next year. I have been staying at the CG at the Kings Bay Navy Base when I am detailed to FLETC, but it is a bit of a commute (exit 3 to exit 38 on Rt 95).

I'd be really interested in what you find out on the Blythe Island CG. Also, there is the Golden Islands CG near by (exit 29 on Rt 95).

Best Regards!

David,

Blythe Island Park is a county park that contains a very nice gated campground.  Obtaining a full-hook site should be no problem.  There or two or three loops of pull through sites.  We had sight 67 the last time and it was large enough for our 40' coach and toad.
We have stayed here a number of times and will do so again in January.

It is very convenient to Brunswick and is not a commercial campground.  The cable TV and WiFi are good.  You should have no problems.  I do not know about the length of stay rules, but there were a number of workers staying there last January that were obviously not weekenders.

As Fred suggested, call them and do the deal.  You will not be sorry.

Charles

Thanks folks. You are great!
Old Snipe, I will let you know what else I find out. I called today and they had now sewage hookup sites available but I am supposed to call back. The contract looks to be firmed up but now they are saying December instead of right away so who knows huh?
If I can firm it up and get it signed, I am buying a 1995 Shasta 28 class C that is in very good condition for me and the two dogs but may have to keep it winterized here in Michigan as we sometimes get very cold weather in November and December...
Thanks Luvglass for your input. It would sure be nice if I can just keep my kids in the rig during the day... Buddy is a 5 yr old longhair Chihuahua/Papillion mix at 8 pounds and Maggie is a "Papzilla"; An oversized (18 pounds!) Papillion purebreed.
Thanks Roz. I will let you know if it all works out.

Thanks, David.

We'll have to hook up when I'm down there next. "G" Bar or Pam's? Your choice. ;c)

Good morning Paul. Finally getting back to you and anyone else for a Blythe report. Been here for 3 weeks now after a month at that other local park and it is truly a nice park. They are in the process of finishing up all sites with full hook-ups. I am in an end spot not too far from the main office yet with the whole park being so wooded you do not even realize it's there. My Sprint aircard gets all bars, sometimes one less from the top so hulu TV for free movies and my I-tunes movie rentals download just fine.
I use pinnacle software for cable TV hookup to my desktop and get comcast cable TV (as do all sites) just great. As if I have much time for all these ammenities.
They are a regional county park like another freind said in this post and being that they also accomodate a ramp and lift for local boaters into the tidal-affected river. A few small shrimp boats hoist in and out here. All that is conveniently far (a bicycle ride) away from us RV'ers though. There are plastic canoes and plastic beginner kayaks to use on the small park-owned lake. The real kicker for this cyclist though are the miles of nature trails and real honest-to-god single track for mountain bikes. Griffin Mower and Bike in downtown Brunswick have done a wonderful job building and maintaining over 5 miles of single-track for some flat but technical riding if you own a real mountain bike (not walmart stuff labeled as such please) and the nature trails are to a westerner like me the same as fire roads; Excellent double-track, well maintained trails for dog walking, birding and bicycling. Even on busy weekends one can responsibly ride a bike at a good workout speed and rarely meet walkers on those shared nature trails.
The only thing I found inconvenient was the laundry but that is partly due to the fact that I am going to the office every day and hence missing the window of time but the laundry is only open from 8 to 5 daily and only has two washers, two driers. I solved that by purchasing a wonderful little washer and drier from Haire compact appliances thru Walmart of all places... They have just been wonderful so far and the total investment was only $500.00 for both. Now that I am wearing golf shirts and khakis daily once again I have dirty clothes each week...
I hear that the sand knats are going to be the real problem here but that goes for just about anywhere else around here when spring and summer hit. I am sure I am going to miss those beautiful spring and summer days up in Michigan as I am going to be here til' September... I would certainly come back here any winter though.
Hope to see you and anyone else reading this. I am in the 27' Terry with the small blue/yellow easy-up shelter covering some of my locked up bikes.

Glad you found Blythe Island CG to your liking, and as I described it last October.  It is our favorite in that area.

If you like great seafood in a laid back, fun restaurant, drive north on US 17 through Brunswick.  About two miles before arriving in Darien, you will find "Mudcat Charlies" situated with the Two-way Fishcamp on the right side of the road.

When you leave Glynco, go out to 17 and turn left.  It is then just about seven or eight minutes to a great "hole in the wall".

If you go, lift a glass for Roz!!!

Charles

Yep. My MMBA (Michigan mountain biking assc.) friends had already told me about Mudcats for the grouper sandwich. Delicious!
Seems some of them had already been thru the area... Next time I go I will raise a glass of sweet tea for Roz!

Hi David,

Thanks for the info.  I'll know by this Wed. (28th) if my instuctional assignment orders are to be cut.  If so, I intend to head down Sat or Sun.
I was wondering if Blythe has any openinngs for a 3 month stay?  Also, if they do what is the cost.  I have as a backup Golden Isles and Kings Bay, but BI would be nice as it is so close to FLETC.  I have to be available for a bunch of night exercises for the students, so the closer the better.

Talk to you soon.

Paul D

I'll ask at the office today when I stop by to check mail. They are increasing the number of long-term sites by 20 or so but I don't know if they are contingent on them finishing up the sewage or not. The current cost is $375.00 per month which includes elect. cable, wifi and sewage. Great deal.
The number  is 912-279-2812 and Dawn is the only one in the office that can answer that so ask for her. I called weekly when I was at GI...

Thanks David!

As of now, I'll be checking into Golden Isles CG on Sunday night.  They do have a site available for me.  I'll make time to check out Blythe after my schedule is worked out.  I may change over to there if a site becomes available.  I'm not sweating it, because Uncle Sam is paying the fee.

Before anyone complains, disbelief I'm authorized up to $119 per night for housing, so a mere $35 a night is saving the government money.  And I'm living in my own place, too. biggrin

David, we'll hook up once I get settled in and have our own little RV.Dreams Brunswick, GA Rally.

Best Regards!
