You might want to research some recent articles regarding travel in Mexico. I've been seeing reports of American tourists being beaten up, robbed and murdered during the past year or so.

I understand one of our favorite spots, Puerto Nuevo is a real battle zone with armed bandits patrolling the streets. Puerto Nuevo is known for it's lobster dinners and I understand the restaurants are closing due to no business.

Most of the reports are from Tijuana and other cities in Baja, however I have heard of problems inland, including Mexico city and the copper canyon area.

One story I read was about a surf school that had been in business for 16 years run by Americans. One night they were mugged and dragged inside their RV, beaten, $8000 worth of stuff stolen and the wife was molested. They closed up the school and moved down to Costa Rica, he said he would never go back to Mexico.

My brother and his wife recently went down to a week long camp at the bay where the whales spend the winter. He didn't have any trouble...

So it may be like tornados or earthquakes, the news reports sometimes make it seem like whole towns were wiped out, when only a couple of streets were actually affected.

We went to Mexico for about 3 weeks last winter, only got in about 5-600 miles. We visited San Carlos, Neuvo Kino, Alamos and Hermasillo. We found everything about Mexico to be enjoyable, the people were friendly, we never felt in danger, the roads were sometimes rough, other areas similar to the states.

Most campgrounds only had 15 or 30 amp service. When you get away form the tourist areas hardly anyone speaks english, but we got by ok with pointing and gesturing. Diesel was only $2.10. there are a number of blogs you can research form people that have spent a lot of time down there. We're definitely planning on going back for a longer visit.

I had a few links that might be useful. I've seen many blogs over time but really can't recall them. You might try a blog search for terms like RV/Mexico. Remember that the "stories" we read about Mexico are certainly out of context and "stories" about the US and our cities will look exactly the same, if not worse, out of context!

My husband and I took our 35 ft 5th wheel Montana down to MX last winter. We were there from Oct through March.
The border towns of MX are mainly the ones that make the news with drugs and etc. There are a lot of places in the US that are not safe. We found the MX people to be wonderful and very helpful.

They are in Wisconsin for a couple of months and were in Mexico last winter and will be heading there again this winter according to they're blog.

I spend every winter Rving around Mexico, never had a problem. I organize RV Caravans down there in spring for those who are nervous, but you can do it on your own. I do have extensive info on the subject on my website at www.mexicorvforums.com, especially on all the border crossing regs.

It is almost always better to start a new thread instead of reviving an old one as the possibility of new forum members thinking that the early information is still valid information could be wrong.

How many Americans meet misfortune or were victims of crime in the US last year. How many Americans were killed in Belgium & France in the last year? Crap can happen anywhere, Mexico included. I have been RVing down there for 10 years and never had an issue. I now lead RV Cravans down there (see http://www.mexicorvbuddies.com/slide1.php ). Most people who run into trouble put themselves at risk, that includes hanging out in bars, getting involved with drugs or boondocking by themselves in remote areas. There are cities I would not enter in Mexico but there are plenty of places I would not enter in the US as well. There have been 35 random shootings in Surrey, BC, Canada in the last year related to the drug trade.

Often when people travel, they leave their common sense back home.
