Actually, this "garbage truck" (in the OP and the first photo below) is called an "expedition class" vehicle. It is made by Unicat. There are models of these rigs that are well upwards of $3 million. The pictured one is well north of $1 million. The 6x6 garbage truck model is amazing. Nice garbage truck

On yet another even more extravagant level there is an uber custom expedition rig that is probably in the $15++ million range. See picture below. It is such a work of art it was on display at MOMA for a while last year. Most over-the-top impressive is what is loaded on board. Positively too much disposable income. Check it out here - MaxiMog.

For the more pratical (yeah right) there is the lower cost (roughly half million) Earth Roamer brand. I think the EV-JP model is the ideal tow vehicle (the last pcture below)! Don't you think H&L need to upgrade the Liberty to the XV-JP? Only $100k!

I was hoping to see an actual garbage truck that had been converted into a motorhome.

This truck is the same type of truck, the teams use in the cross country rallies like Paris-Dakar as chase vehicles.

Although it sort of has the look of a garbage truck, like RV Dude stated they are very expensive, too costly to use for garbage.

It starts out as a cab and box and then can be customized to fit the need for rally teams, expedition support or as a mobile lab...etc.

From what I've heard they are very good off road vehicles and are very fast.

Malcolm Smith, a famous motorcycle riders tells a story about riding a motorcycle in the Paris-Dakar rally and one of these chase trucks passed him at over 100 MPH on a dirt road. Scared the you know what out of him.

I pulled into Safeway here in Tucson one day and parked right by one of these. Man, are they impressive!!

OK guys, move out of your left brain for awhile and think about the possibilities. If they can do that, yes there can be an extra shelf in the bathroom for towels! :)

Well, I am confused by the "garbage truck" RV. The slide show shows a number of windows and a door, which I presume goes to the outside, in the interior views. However, I can find neither windows or a sizeable door in the side of the vehicle in the outside views of the truck.

From the interior, I did see an obvious access point going into the cab. There was also a door with a handle, with steps leading down, but I see nothing with a similar shape and size on the outside.

Can someone explain this to me?

The rig in the slide show is made by Unicat. They are all custom and based on numerous different chassis and models. The interior shots are from stock shots on the Unicat site. Hence, it would appear that the exterior shots in the slide show (which is of the European only version on a MAN chassis) are not the same rig as the interior shots which are stock photos.
