Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.
We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!
We had planned to travel a little south on July 6, but it will be delayed by a week. We have to have the roof replaced. We consulted with 3 RV repair places and took it into one place. We had hoped we could have it patched. The whole roof has to be replaced due to a seal not working around the airconditioner in back and another place up front where the caulking broke. Water seeped into the wood and it is buckled. Anyway, it will be to the tune of $4000 which is $2000 less than 2 others quoted. Has anyone else had to have this done? Sally
Sorry to hear about your problems, and I hope you can get it repaired soon.
Your problems do bring up a very important point. Everyone should check all of the seals and caulking on the roof frequently. Just a small leak can do a lot of damage, and cost a great deal to repair. The problem is that many times you don't even know you have a leak until it shows up as a sagging ceiling or delamination of the sidewalls.
I try to get up on our roof with a tube of caulking at least twice a year, and check all caulking and seals the best I can. Hopefully, I will find trouble spots before they can begin to leak. Also, when we have our annual service done on the MH, I have them check it too. Sometimes they find a spot that I have missed.
Good luck with the repairs, and I hope it doesn't delay you too long.
Jim

Thanks Jim. Sorry I haven't replied sooner, but we don't get phone or internet in the RV where we are staying and I don't get to the WIFI often. We got it repaired, no leaks. Gary had caulked, but what we found out is that whoever put on the first roof didn't place the cooling housing on tightly and that's where it leaked and had probably been leaking before we ever bought it last year. Sally
Which brings up a good point. When buying used be sure to have someone check for leaks before you buy. That is one of the most common problems in older units and the most costly to have repaired. Sorry for your problem...and I know you are more aware of this now that you had to go through it.
