Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.

We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!

New Member seeking Airstream Trailer

. I'm a retired lady living in East Tennessee. I thought it would be a good idea to start doing some camping out again in order to meet more people like myself.

I would like to find a Classic Airstream trailer with slide or without slide. Front sofa lounge, rear twin beds would be nice, but any layout would do. Late model would be my preference.
Price is certainly a consideration. With the price of gas nowadays, one must conserve everywhere in order to do the things we wish to do.

If you know anyone with an Airstream parked, unused, please ask them to get in touch with me. Unused units get old fast, and I'd certainly fix an unused one up nicely (I love to fix things up) and get some pleasure out of camping again. In the East Tennessee area where I live, there are many Parks and Campgrounds close by to visit and stay for a 3-day weekend. Being a Senior I can take advantage of Sunday, Monday, and Tuesdays, so as not to take away weekends from the work-a-day folks who need those Fri Sat and Sundays. You all sound like a very pleasant group and I look forward to chatting on this Forum. I'll let you know if I am able to find someone that will sell me their much loved unit. Thanks. FrancesM

Welcome to the forum...hope you can find what you're looking for. You might want to try craigslist for some of the SE cities. Here is one I found just by doing a Google search on "airstream for sale".

1968 airstream travel trailer 4 sale - $3000 (ellijay ga)

Here's a site you might enjoy:

There is also a very active forum for Airstreamers:

Oh! Please... Let me clarify what I was asking for.
I like to redo things, but taking on a '68... a 40 year old unit would be far beyond my skills. That's something that would have to be redone from the framework up and throughout the unit, and that would take a really skilled mechanic and construction person

I was thinking more of a later model Airstream... 1999 up to the present time. Something with a safe framework and in need of interesting inside redoing, or better yet, no re-doing at all. -smile-
excepting maybe some redecorating.

And area wise... I wouldn't want to have to retrieve a unit from California... much too far away.
I'd love to find a nice Airstream not too far from Knoxville, Tennessee.

Thank you Froggi.. I'm glad you brought my lapses to my attention. FrancesM

I'd definitely be using the Craigslist for all the TN locations. I used to live in Sparta (just south of Cookeville) before going full-time. I found the trailer for my motorcycle that way...good luck and keep us updated!

Hi Frances, I'm from Western NC so we are "neighbors".  I've just recently joined, so I'm interested in your search for an Airstream.

Hi Gypsy: Good to know you. What kind of camper do you have? I see by your bio that you've done some camping before this. Do you do family camping or rally camping? I've done a lot of that, rally camping, going to many different states and meeting pretty nice people. In my search for an Airstream, I am hoping that something interesting will come up. Are you looking for a trailer or motor home too?

Too bad you can't be in Bozeman, Montana right now since the Wally Byam Caravan Club International is having their international rally in the next couple weeks. This is the Airstream club. Their website is http://www.wbcci.org/ and you might find when a smaller group is having a rally close to you and track them down for help.

Hi Bill: That's a very good idea, contacting that group and letting someone know what I'm looking for. I am not in any hurry, to be sure... but, I'd like to get something for Fall and Winter travel, after the lawn mowing and outside house care is over with.

It would be fun then to meet up with a few others with the same idea, and go for a round trip in a small caravan.

What kind of a unit are you traveling or camping in? Some Forums have the member's camper listed under their names. I've been reading some of Froggi's blog and it's clear she does a 'heap' of traveling by herself. Interesting reading.
Bye. FrancesM

Frances: Now you have me wondering what is wrong with my signature line since it shows my RV and a journal web link that will show you my wife and I in front of the motorhome.

We knew about the Airstream rally since we were in Bozeman a few days ago and there were already a lot of Airstreams at Montana State University even though the rally does not start until the 28th.  We are now visiting Yellowstone.

Hi Bill: Sorry about that. I was looking at the column on the left side for information about a member, as most of the sites I visit have things listed there. Upon glancing downward after reading your letter, there the information was on your unit.
I'm going to have to teach myself to be a bit more observant..aww.gif

From what I've read, Yellowstone is going to be a beautiful place to visit. Have a great time!smile.gif Bye. Frances

Hi Frances,

We just purchased an 23 ft 87 Airstream Sovereign. It is in excellent condition only needing some minor repairs. I will eventually change the carpeting and upholstery but those by no means have to be done right now. I found the trailer on Craigslist. Keep looking, you will find what you need in your price range.

Another good resource is this thread on the Airforums board: We Can Tow It
Many women there tow and recently had their first rally.

And if you like fly-fishing, here's another great group, Sisters on the Fly. I don't belong to any of these but love seeing what they've done to their TTs. Gives me great ideas for decorating!

Hi Judy:
Thanks for all the good tips. I followed the link for We can Tow It and found that Forum interesting. I then followed the link for Sisters On The Fly, and read all about them. They looked like a fun-group and I might have been interested enough to join them, however, on viewing their photos, too many of the girls were pairs. Since it's an all-girl
group, then there are no guy-girl pairs allowed, and one gathers that the members are probably not the same as me, and I wouldn't have much in common with them.

I appreciate your suggestion to watch the various Lists on things being sold. I am following up on one I spotted and no telling how it will turn out. People over-price their possessions nowadays, and what with the gas situation getting worse, and knowing that in the near future it's going to get 'worser' -smile- it looks like I'll probably be able to find just what I'm looking for in the colder months. I'm certainly in no hurry and price is a consideration.

Sounds like you have a nice Airstream Sovereign.. You'll have great fun improving the insides.. it's a big job, but very satisfying. I recently sold my Winnebago Warrior 20' and had redone the entire insides of that. I suppose, whatever I manage to find, I'll change that to suit my idea of comfort, as we all do. Thanks for your input.

Hi Frances,

My husband and I bought a 1991 25' Airstream Classic in 2005; it was in excellent condition, no leaks and everything worked perfectly. We've had a lot of fun with it. There is an Airstream only campground not too far from you in Crossville, TN. They have trailers/motorhomes for sale quite often. Just type in www.airstreamtcpc.org. PM me if you'd like more info.

Hi DanLesr:
Thanks for the suggestion. I wasn't aware that there was an Airstream only campground so close to me... about an hour driving time. That would be GREAT! Park the Airstream and visit every Friday to Sunday or Monday.

I'm looking into it. I couldn't find anything mentioning that there are any Airstreams for sale, only Membership Lots for sale. It will be interesting to hear back from my inquiry. You can't get in without an Airstream, (unless you are a guest of a lot Member.)

They don't mention how many members they have, but they have
about 150 lots. Assuming they have some for sale and some for visitors, there's probably around 100 active. It should be easy to make new friends with a group that size.

Thanks so much for alerting me to this possibility. I'll let you know how I make out. FrancesM

Hi Frances,

The campground is really nice, approximately 435 acres, including a small (7 acre) lake where you can fish and and there are several hiking trails. While most lots are owned, there are 5 or 6 visitor lots. Daily rate is (I think) $15 for full hookups and wi-fi; can't remember if there's a monthly rate. There is a laundry room in the clubhouse and a small library. You do not need to be a member of WBCCI for TCPC.
However, if you join WBCCI, you are eligible to camp at another Airstream only campground not too far from you - just north of Helen, GA. is "Top of Georgia" campground. Rates are $8/night or $180/month for full hook-ups, wi-fi and basic cable. The only downside is that the campsites are fairly small and not very private. If you happen to be there when the club is having a rally, you share water spigots and the sites are really crowded. However, there are a LOT of hiking trails and parks in the area, including Unicoi State Park and Anna Ruby Falls; we're hoping to go back sometime and check out more of the hiking trails. I could go on for a bit, but not wishing to bore everyone else to tears aww.gif, I'll stop here.

Leslie

I don't own any type of RV since I am in the research stage.  Is anyone aware of other campgrounds that cater to a particular RV, the way the Airstream CG's are for Airstream owners only?  Thanks.
