How often do fulltimers get out of the rig for a few days?

One year fulltiming, not yet left the rig. Our vacations are in our backyard, hoping we do not have to do the airports anymore!

We have a very busy schedule for the next year or so. We've just returned from a short jaunt to Ansa Borego, Moab, Las Vegas, and Yosemite in the MH. But now we will park the RV for 15 days while we take a trip to Switzerland. The first week will be on the 'Chocolate Train', and the second week on a cruise boat traveling up and down the Rhine. A week after we return from that trip we catch a flight to Mexico for another 15 day trip (I forget exactly where, I'm not the trip organizer). Once we return to the rig from Mexico we head out for a Country Coach rally in Albany Oregon. We have no firm plans after that, other than the need to get back to the Bay Area (SF) by November to catch a flight to the Mediterranean for a cruise and a visit to the Pyramids. Then it's back on the road again, eventually making our way to Illinois by June where we join up with my Sister and Mom to catch a flight to China and the Great Wall. After that I hope we just stay put in the rig for a while (maybe a year or two, I hope!) and see some more of our beautiful country.

In a week it will be one year fulltiming. Haven't felt the need to do anything but live the adventure in the trailer so far. Even when out the the rig for trailer repairs we can't wait to come "home".

After almost five years we have each had to travel away for medical stuff, but one of us has been in our motorhome each night.
We used to take many vacations and weekend trips when we had a house and job. Haven't felt much need for such a trip since we started full-timing.

It will soon be 2 yrs for us for fulltiming and the only time we were away from the RV was last Chirstmas when we flew to Fl. to visit my daughter and son-in-law. Had to put the dogs in kennel and it cost more for that than if we would of flown them down with us.

As fulltime workampers we are presently in MT. We left the MH here and we drove to the Seattle area for the graduation of Kathleen's granddaughter and I also visited with some cousins. It was nine nights out and we missed our home. you cannot pack for such a trip when you are accoutomed to having everything at your finger tips. Every day out it rained or was overcast, couldn't pack enough rain gear. Glad to be back home

We have been fulltiming for two years and have not felt the need to "get out of the rig". However, each person has different likes and dislikes. Some people like to get away from home and pamper themselves in hotels or on cruises. There is absolutely nothing right or wrong about doing this - we need to do what makes us happy. Afterall, that is why we chose this lifestyle in the first place. We have close friends who have been fulltiming since 1999 and feel like we do. We also have good friends who have been fulltiming since 2000 and love to "vacation" in Europe. So it is kind of hard to answer your question as to "what to expect in the long term" - the answer is within you!!!!

We have been on the road now for over 3 years. I haven't spent a single night out of the coach since 28, December 2004. I have no desire to. For years when we had sticks and bricks we made weekends and vacations. We hated to come back every single time. Now we don't have to ever leave the coach at night. If we don't like where we are we leave and find a place we do like.

We've been on the road almost 8 years and don't feel a need to "get away", but, just like when we were in our sticks and bricks house, opportunities to do something different come up. We've gone to our daughter's every Christmas and since she lives where it snows, we don't take the RV biggrin

. Several old friends were going on a cruise to the Mexican Riviera and asked us to go along. We'd never been there, so decided it would be fun, after several years, to get the old gang together. This spring we went with friends (15 of us) we met at an RV park on a week long rafting trip on the Colorado River through the Grand Canyon...would have liked to have the RV on that one, but it wouldn't fit in our backpacks...and the trip was a lifetime experience! We've each taken a week trip now and then for family or part-time work reasons, but the biggest thing is feeling secure about leaving the RV parked someplace. Hubby decided just this past week to stay with the RV while I helped our daughter move 800 miles away and it was a good thing he stayed...our campsite along an Illinois river is now under water and the RV had to be moved to higher ground. We much prefer to stay in the RV...and take our home along with us to visit other places, but sometimes it just doesn't work.

We've been fulltime for almost 2 1/2 years now and individually we've been out for a day or 2 to fly back to Milwaukee to pick up a little grand daughter a couple of times, and once we we both flew to Mexico for a family reunion, but overall we don't have a need to get away from the rig.
Everyday life is a vacation all the time!

7 days in the last 7 years. At a family reunion, and the worst bed I have ever tried to sleep on. Was like sleeping on a rock! cry

Now when we go to the reunion, we sleep in our MH. biggrin

We've been fulltiming for 4 years now and only get out of the rig when we visit family, especially during Christmas because they are in MD and we don't bring the rig with us then. We've also stayed out when we've stayed with friends while enroute somewhere. Every time, though, we're always glad to get back into our home. Packing is not fun anymore!! It's hard to remember what to bring when you have it with you all the time. :)
