Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.

We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!

Pressure Pro

We have a 5th wheel toyhauler and tow with a F 550.  We are considering purchasing a Pressure Pro tire monitoring system and was wondering if anyone had one for their 5er.
We were recently at the RV show here in Tampa and spoke with several dealers.
Of course they all want to sell their systems, but wanted to turn to all of the readers of this forum for input.
Thanks always,

All Pressure Pro dealers want your business.  You can go to www.pressureprosystem.com  Mike & Pat McFall are Family members of RV Dreams.  They pay special attention and provide the best service to RV Dreams readers.

There are many fivers and MH with Pressure Pro installed.  One of the best safety devices you can add.

We have had the pressure pro system on our RV and toad for several years now. It is a very reliable system and provides you with real time information about the air pressure in your tires. I know from my own experience over 30+ years of RVing that low air pressure is the primary cause of premature tire failure, especially when coupled with loading issues. The pressure pro system can save you from ruining tires and can also save the damage to your RV caused by a blow out. We highly recommend it.

Just wanted to add that I contacted Mike & Pat a few days ago about the Pressure Pro.  They replied very promptly & seemed willing to answer questions.  I haven't ordered the system yet, as it's just not in the budget for this month, but Mike & Pat seemed like good folks.

We have had them for our second year of full-timing  with a fiver and an F550 and would not be without them either. It is a good safety feature and when we had the money we bought them when Mike and Pat were setup at Beaudrys last winter in Tucson.

I bought a set with 10 sensors in Feb 2007. Try as I might, I could never get them to work. No Rv shop or tire shop that I approached could either. I bought them from Doran who were absolutely no help and would not offer any refund. I'll be in the RGV for 2 more weeks (Mission-Donna area) if anyone knows where I could get them installed for a fee. I guess the batteries in the sensors would be dead by now so I'd have to get those as well.

Thanx

I absolutely recommend the Pressure Pro.  I've heard of a few people who have had problem programming them, but not many.  We had a blow out and the alarm sounded immediately.  It allowed me to get safely off the road before the tire delamenated and tore up the side of the RV.  I had often wondered if you would feel it if one of the fifthwheel tires blew or went flat and I can tell you that you will not.  When a tire goes flat it places more stress on the remaining tires and could cause them to blow as well which may very well result in a crash.  I wouldn't leave home without it!!!!

When we bought our system we received an operators manual which outlined the instructions for initial programming of the units. Later we had a situation where one of the sensors was working incorrectly on one of the wheels. I called the phone number in the manual for assistance and they told me to move the sensor to a different wheel and walked me through the reprogramming of the system. I can't put my hands on the book right no or I would give you the number but I will research further and let you know. I am certain that they would be willing to help you too.

Some time later we were at the American Coach service center in Decatur IN and met the president of the Pressure Pro company. He was there getting some service work done on his motor coach. We had a good visit and he was a wonderful chap. He swapped out the remote sensor that had previously given me problems, at no cost.

I checked it out and found the following:
the manual I spoke of is available on the internet in pdf format from www.advantagepressurepro.com.
the telephone number for technical assistance is 1-800-959-3505.

You can down load the manual and print it off.  Installation and operation instructions are in the manual documentation.

Thanks for the reply. I looked at advantagepressurepro.com. I have essentially the same instructions with mine. I programmed it like instructed and everything looked fine. (a pain as my dually required jacking and dismounting of the duals to get at the valve stems) I went for a test drive to test the system and half of the sensors deprogrammed leaving the screen blank. A couple of the other (functioning?) sensors alarmed showing no pressure. I removed the alarming sensors and checked the air pressure...OK. I rejacked the truck, removing wheels and reprogramming....same result. Calling Doran was a waste of cell time. They wanted the control panel mounted such that the antena was totally vertical. Slanted on my dash was the problem according to them. I jury rigged something to hold it vertical but there was no improvement. What I want is someone to do the heavy lifting and get the system to work. False alarms are a waste of my time. Thanx for the info ahoweth but I'm not prepared to jack up my truck remove 10 bolts per wheel reprogram the thing only to have it malfunction again. I will however pay someone to set it up for me if they can get it to work properly.

Sorry to hear of the continued malfunction. While the one transmitter I had that gave me trouble kept alarming, the system never deprogrammed. It turned out that the transmitter was an older one and the internal battery was KAPUT. Unfortunately the batteries in the transmitters are not replaceable. The transmitter must be replaced at a cost of $50 per. I was lucky that the Pres. of the company replaced mine free of charge. I did produce my sales receipt for him to prove that the battery should have lasted longer. The company states that the transmitter batteries should last for at least 5 years. Deprogramming sounds like a system problem though.

Sorry I couldn't be of any more assistance.

There are two excellent yet very different tire monitoring systems. PressurePro and Smartire. Consider the features and capabilities of each in your decision. Both deliver as advertised.

Sorry, we have been on the road moving from the RGV (Rio Grande Valley in Texas) to AZ. and missed this topic. We are presently at the North Ranch Escapee Park in Congress, AZ.

Pat and I have been using and selling PressurePro for over 4 years. We are happy to answer any questions anyone has regarding the PressurePro.

TO: igotjam,

Sorry we didn't hear about this before we left the RGV. We were there for 3 months and just left there last Thursday. We would have been happy to help you with your installation problem. I'm sure that if you call the Advantage PressurePro 800 #, you can get help installing your system. Doug McMeen, Director of Operations, is an excellent troubleshooter of the system. Since Doran is no longer a Distributor for PressurePro, I know Doug will be happy to help you. Just tell him you bought your system from Doran and that it is less than a year old. The 800# is: 800-959-3505. Your batteries in the Sensors should be fine. They only use battery power when they are installed on the valve stem. When they do lose their power (in 4-5 years), they can be replaced for 1/2 price ... $25.

We will be at the RV Dreams Rally in June and we are looking forward to meeting a lot of you folks there. We have been full-timing for over 13 years and are still enjoying every minute of it.

Please let us know if we can be of assistance to anyone. We will be glad to answer questions or help with any problems we can by email or over the phone. Our email address is:
pressureprosystem@yahoo.com and our phone # is: 850-294-0281.

Mike

Mike,

My truck, Ford F350 dually, has metal valve stems. Our trailer, double axle Montego Bay, has rubber stems. Would I need to have the trailer stems replaced to use the Pressure Pro system?

Joezilla,
It would be a good idea to replace the rubber valve stems with metal ones, even if you didn't install a tire pressure monitoring system.  In my opinion they are just much safer.

PressurePro dosen't recommend using rubber valve stems. However lots of people do use them and get by with it. Its depends a lot on the condition and how old the rubber valve stems are and also how long they are. If they are a few years old they get dry and brittle. Sometimes you can make them leak just by bending them over with your hand. If they are very long, they will "flex" a lot while your moving and this could cause a problem, especially with the Tire Pressure Sensor on it.

I'm surprised that some of the RV manufacturers will put out a unit with rubber valve stems. Its a known fact that Metal ones are a definite safety item.
Especially with a RV that weighs over 10,000 lbs.

A lot of people use Sensors on their towed vehicle and they have rubber valve stems. They usually have the rubber stems changed to metal or semi metal at the first opportunity. That's what I did.

Its kind of a judgement call, but if you want to be on the safe side, I'd go to Metal Valve stems. If not up front, I'd do it ASAP!

Hope this helps. If you need anything further, feel free to give us a call.

I realize this thread is old, just hoping someone will read this and respond. How many just use the sensors on their 5ver and not the truck? Seems they would be more trouble than it's worth on the inner duels.Have NEVER had tire trouble on truck just 5ver.If you recomend using them on the truck would the steel braided valve stem extenders work with the sensors on the rear duels?

On the inner duals is WHERE you want them.....those are the hardest to check.

Saving the money from the truck is false economy IMO. You want to make sure that ALL your tires are checked with the PP. ESPECIALLY ones that are hard to get to. JMO.

Thanks for the response Jack, I actually got a good deal on a PP with 8 sensors, just didn't have my thinking cap on.Took a good look at my truck today and the rear ones won't be as hard as I thought. Looks like I need to get 2 more sensors and be completely covered. It never really was about cost anyway. It's nice to be able to get good answers from those who's opinion I respect.

I bought my Pressure Pro monitor and 10 sensors back in November, but have never found anyone who would install them.  My son thinks he can do it, but I take up his time with so many other things that need doing I just hate to pin him down to it.

Have any of you installed your own, and realistically, how difficult was it?  How about the inner tires on duallies?

Hi Gypsy97,

I am sorry to hear you are having problems installing your PressurePro system.  It is really pretty simple to install if you follow the Installation instructions in your PressurePro Manual.  Are you close to any RV'ers who have the PressurePro system.  I'm sure they would be glad to help but you really need to know how to install the system yourself.

I will be glad to walk you through the installation process on the phone.  You can call me anytime at: 850-294-0281.  Where are you located now?  We are in the Rio Grande Valley in Texas. (CT)

Let me know if I can assist you or answer any questions for you.

Safe Travels,

Pat (and Mike)

Pat, I really appreciate your offer.  I am planning to take my truck to get serviced tomorrow and get the four rear tires checked.  One of them has required adding air twice in the last month, so I think it might need to be replaced.  Once I get that taken care I will probably take you up on your offer.  I'm currently in Sacramento, by the way.

Thanks again.
