Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.


We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!

Hi Everyone,
 
My name is Colleen and I am new to RV-Dreams and this forum.  My husband and I have been dreaming about the day when we will begin fulltiming.  We are too young to retire (he's 47 and I'm 34) but our desire to have the freedom to live our lives the way we want to is overwhelming.  Our goal is to leave our current positions at the end of June 2008 and head for the open road.

My husband is a physician who runs a chronic pain practice (treats mostly people with back pain) he has recently written a book for people with back or neck pain to help them regain intimacy with their partners.  We are hoping to promote the book on our travels as well as sponsor workshops for couples.

I am a statistical analyst and SAS programmer at a large University.  I am hoping to be able to keep my job (at least part-time) while we travel.  All I need is an internet connection and I'm good to go (if anyone has any recommendations about staying connected I would love to hear from you).  I will discuss the possibility of staying on part-time when we have a set departure date (depends on whether by hubby sells his medical practice or not).  I am also acting as the Web Master for my husband's Websites(www.ComfortableSex.com, www.ExcelsiorBooks.net, www.BetterHealthBetterSex.com).  I am new to this and learning as I go.  It has been fun (and frustrating at times), but I am looking forward to perfecting it along the way.  My current frustration is figuring out the whole shopping cart, gateway, and merchant services end of things.

Now, about our rigs....
In the past two years we have had two 5th wheels and three trucks.  We started off with a 24 ft Wilderness.  It was an older RV without any slideouts.  We went camping in it several times.  It didn't take long to determine that we would need more room.  Less than a year later we bought a K-Z Durango 5th wheel 285RL and we absolutely love it.  There is only 1 slideout, but I think it will be enough space (just not any extra space).  We are currently trying to figure out how to put a workstation for me.

For trucks, we started off with a 2001 2WD Ford F250.  It was a nice truck, but during our first RV trip out of   state it had rained for two weeks straight.  Anyway, we had to have someone else (with 4WD) pull our Wilderness out of the campsite so we could go home.   So next came a 2006 4WD Diesel Ford F250.  This was a barebones work truck.  This was extremely uncomfortable and noisy.  Which brings us to our current truck, a 2007 GMC Sierra 3500 HD with 4WD.  This diesel truck is very comfortable and quiet.  We love it!

I apologize for being a bit long winded, but I look forward to meeting many of you on our journey.

Welcome, I envy you being able to set out on this amazing journey while still so young. It seems more and more people are biting the bullet and deciding that the stix and brix and 9-5 isn't for them anymore. This is an excellent site with many knowledgeable RVers who can help you with any questions you might have.

Hello from Mississippi.
I am Donna and hubby is Hugh. He is retiring May 1,from the electrical power plant and I am already done with being an EMT. Three children ages 34,31, and 21 and 1 PERFECT grandchild age 6 months. For 42 years I have wanted to move to Florida BUT that didn't happen. So now I want to buy a travel trailer and go places. That's the only way we will survive retirement.HA! Don't want to put alot of money into it in case we don't like it.I have a 2 year old Jack Russel named TESS that will be traveling with us. We won't be full time. Just want to be able to go and see and take Tess. BTW Miss Delta means that's where we live in the Mississippi Delta, right on the river.

Penny,

Thank you so much for the RV Desk link.  What an excellent idea!!!  I love the idea of keeping the dinette benches for readily accessable drawers.  I also like the fact that it won't cost very much - it is something I can probably do myself.
