Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.

We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!

Freezer in a 5th Wheel

We are planning on a trip to Alaska in 2008. We have been several times previously but this is the first with an RV. The last time we bought 44 pounds of frozen fish and brought it home in an insulated box that we checked as baggage. We are thinking about bringing home frozen fish this time. We know that some people have put a small freezer in their FW and we are considering the same. So if you have a freezer in your FW, our questions are:

1. Did you put the freezer in the basement or inside the FW?
2. What brand and model of freezer did you get?
3. Is your freezer top or side load?
4. How long can you go without power assuming the freezer is full of frozen stuff?
5. When you didn't have 110 v ac power, did you take any extra precautions such as wrapping the freezer in insulation or adding dry ice?
6. Would you have a freezer again after having had one?
7. If you have brought frozen fish from Alaska via Canada back to the US, did you have any problems crossing the border back into the US?
7. Any other thoughts on this idea?

Thanks for your help.

Leslie & Robert

We have never had a bunch of frozen fish in our freezer but it is usually loaded. We have an Avanti and it works well. All is still frozen after a full day of driving without 110V.
Avanti has chest types and front door models. Look in your yellow pages but the dealer will have to order such a small one.

Judy here Travlinbobs wife.  I LOVE my freezer and it sits in the basement of our fiver.  It has 4 drawers that pull in and out.  We bungied it around and hooked it to the side so it does not move. How many lbs it holds I am not sure would have to look it up.  My purpose for buying it was to fish for salmon in due time.

Judy,  Who is the manufacturer of your freezer?  I've never heard of one with drawers?

Thanks
Leslie

My parents purchased the smallest chest size freezer they could get ( they set in one place long enough to set outside 5ver for longer periods of time) and put it in trailer and move in and out as needed.   Anna

Thanks to all.  Judy, although you said you are traveling Bob's wife, I missed the connection.  We'll look at Advanti.  Thanks.

Hi Judy, I tried to find the freezer like yours online but could not find any with drawers. Would you be able to give us a model number to search for? Thanks, Ray.
