Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.
We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!
We last used our fiver early October. We will use it this weekend and then put it up for the winter. We left certain items in the refrig such as catsup, syrup, steak sauce, etc in aniticipation of this weekend. We keep the Fifth wheel plugged to our electric.
We went out earlier this week to find EVERYTHING completely frozen in the refrigerator section. Thermometer read 20. We called Camping World yesterday and they told us about the adjustment on the right side of those "cells" that hang down under the freezer section. We slid it down somewhat. This morning the thermometer reads 15.
We now have emptied the thing and in the process of defrosting and trying again. We need to pack up tonight to head out tomorrow afternoon. Outside temp has ranged from high 30's to 50's. It is 32 this morning.
Unfortunately we have been playing with a strange Dometic frig in our Cedar Creek lately too. The slide thermistor should vary the temp inside the frig about 10 degrees from all the way up on the fin to all the way down but not hanging off the fin. If it just keeps running staying way too cold all the time you may have a control board problem (about $130 plus labor). Defrost etc wont change anything unless it is really frosted up bad. It could be as cheap and easy as just the thermistor itself. A thermistor (just a resistor that varies by temperature) can be checked by measuring its resistance (in ohms using a voltmeter) at a given temperature. See if Dometic help or someplace online will give you a table of ohms vs temp.
If the thermistor fails the refer could be in a "backup operating mode" and just running it's little heart out to save the contents in the refer until it gets fixed. If the fins are frosting up rapidly, the thermistor is especially potentially at fault.
You can also try moving the thermistor left a fin or two as well. Since the fins are cooled from the upper right to the lower left the temp of the fins is coldest at the upper right corner and warmest at the lower left corner. Hence you can "coarse tune" the refer temp by moving the thermistor around on the fins as mentioned (up/down and left/right). "Fine tuning" of temp is done by your temp setting dial.
