Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.


We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!

Has anyone replaced an older style tv in a motor home?  We have a "square screen" tv in our 04 Bounder.  I'd like to get a flat-screen LCD TV.  Just wondering what it will take to do this.  Can we just go in to Best Buy or Sears and buy the right size and put it in ourselves, or is this something that will need to be purchased and installed at an RV Dealership?

We have not upgraded our TVs yet either.  This is something on our "to do" list.  If you go to www.irv2.com and look under the section for motorhomes.  Go to Monaco as well as Newmar under the topic "quick tips and easy mods" and there is step by step as well as pics showing the transformation.  They certainly make it look easy.
Let us know how things go for you if you decide to do the project yourself.  Maybe even include some pics on this forum.   We have several things that we have purchased lately and the house is still on the market so we are putting spending on hold until the house sells. 
Good luck and keep us updated.

Hi Ellie and Jim.
    I didn't replace the TV, Added a 20" LCD flat screen to my motor home. I fabricated my own mounting bracket and mounted it on the balk head between the two over head doors. I have this TV hooked up to a Wineguard satellite dish and also I can switch between it and cable.  You can by the brackets i just like to make my own stuff from time to time. It wasn't to bad of an install, the scary part was drilling the the hole through the roof of the RV. You want to take your time and plan it out good. I had to run wiring to the balk head also for power for the TV, Direct TV receiver box and a DVD. It's all plugged in to a surge protector also. Hey thanks for the ideas and links!  I had fun browsing the other web sites, and, oh boy, another forum I didn't know about before!!

Now, after researching various solutions, and doing some online shopping, I called Directv to talk to them about a receiver.  Found out we will need to replace not only the receiver, but our satellite dish as well, in order to receive all their updated HD programming. 

So....I delved into that a little more and found out there are new satellites up there beaming different channels and so forth, and not all the dishes are compatible with these.  Seems we need one that is a 5 NLB.

Bottom line here is that I think we're going wait a bit before laying out a bunch of cash only to find out we're behind the technology curve -- again.

Our good ole' tv should work well for another year or so....
