Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.

We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!

Direct TV Reciever is HOT

I'd like to know if anyone else that has Direct TV satellite is noticing that the receiver is very hot,  even when it's not turned on. On a resent outting I happen to put my hand up in the bulk head where I keep the receiver and noticed that it was very hot and it wasn't on at the time. I keep the bulk head door open for air to circulate, but like I said the unit wasn't even on. I don't believe that it should be that hot given that it's not on. When we got home the first thing I checked was the reciever at the house and it was also hot, but not as hot as the RV. Any thoughts on this, My fellow Rver's.  Gummy weirdface

Ours stayes warm most all the time and sometimes quite warm on a hot day when its on. A lot depends on the temp at the time and the amount of air circulation space in the cabinet its in.
Might call your provider and discuss it with them. Now calling DirecTV may take a while and a LOT of patience. You might even have to speak another language.
Good Luck
Mike

Hi Mike,
Thanks for getting back to my question, it just doesnt seem right that the reciever should be that hot when it's not on. I will be calling Direct to get their take on the issue. The last time I called, I got lucky, the lady that I talked to was very good at trouble shooting and I could understand every wood she said. Thanks again. Gummy

We had the same problem with our Direct TV receiver.  For one thing the cabinets are soooo small!  We went to Radio Shack and purchased a small fan about 3x3 in size (might have been originally meant for a computer) and wired it to run constantly.  The salesman at Radio Shack helped us get the necessary items to make the connection.  When I described the problem to him he was able to show me several fans that might have worked.  We bought the small size so it can fit in the cabinet.
I also mentioned this to a Direct TV tech that came to our house and he said that they get hot like that and it is ok.  I didn't feel comfortable with anything that hot in such a small area in my motorhome so that is why I purchased the fan.  It works great!!!  Keeps things cool and I sometimes still leave my door open to the cabinet but I really don't have to.  Go talk with the folks at Radio Shack.
