Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.
We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!
we are going to be fulltimers in 2008-we live in canada-the scariest creatures here are garden snakes (which i don't like) i don't mind bugs etc...someone reading this will probably laugh-but please help me out here-what are the creatures that you have to watch out for in these parks for instance in texas or anywhere else for that matter-thanks
We haven't spent much time in Texas, but we did pick up an RV full of ants in Georgia one time. Woke up in the morning, and the whole place was full of them. (Must have been parked on top of an ant hill).
I have heard of RVers having problems with mice, but most RVs are pretty tight, so most people don't really have a lot of problems with creatures.
I really don't think you have much to worry about.

Ants are the only problem we've come across (except for the earwigs here in Ontario). We did have some Japanese lady bugs in Ohio the year before last. The bugs and other creatures are pretty much gone for the winter. I do know of one couple that had carpenter ants in Florida last year. We were in Texas and Florida last year - didn't see any creatures other than the beautiful birds, alligators and some squirrels. We were west the year before and no 'creatures'. So I wouldn't be too concerned about bugs in the south.
Look at your site before you unhook. If you see anything crawling, change sites. Comet around your tires works for ants. Put bug spray on a cloth tied around your electrical cord and hose and that should discourage them.
We had ants once in Gorgia last year and bought a sprayer to cover the perimiter. We haven't had any bug or critter problems aside form that in the 18 months we've been fulltiming, and the sprayer is buried deep in the basement.
That said, depending how remote you camp will probably more determine the amount of critters, we stay mostly in commercial CG's.
My friend's parents woke up a few weeks ago to a baby skunk - in their bed with them! He was real friendly for a few days, until they finally found his hiding place and got him cornered. Yep, apparently, even a baby skunk has it's defenses.
