Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.

We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!

kingdome rain issues

Well this is the second weekend in a row where it's been overcast and rainy, and no Direct tv signal and most of all no Nascar, never had this problem at home with the dish. Is this a normal occurence with the dome dish and would I still get a signal with the oval dish? We have a Kingdome 3 lnb and Direct. Any help would be appreciated.

I sat through a seminar at the FMCA rally that addressed that issue. There is a treatment from KD that supposedly fixes it. However, I would certainly try some Rain-X or 303 Protectant on the dome. Anything to make it CLEAN and SLICK.

Secondary issue is heat differential inside and out causes some condensation "inside" the dome, but this time of year that should not be an issue.

They now call it "water attenuation" :)

We had some rain fade yesterday ( here in Washington state ) but nothing severe. Just make sure the dome is clean.

Mike, I use the stuff that kingdome sells to protect against rain fade, but it doesn't even have to be raining to lose the signal, sometimes just clouds will cause it to be lost. Anyone know if being further north could be a contributing factor, seemed to work better when we were further south.

The only thing being north could effect is the look angle. The "tilt" is considerably lower in the northern tier. One time though around Charleston, the TV antenna shadowed the dome causing issues.

The KD guy did suggest a squirt from the hose might help break the surface tension. I believe the slightly "flattened" dome is the real issue. He blamed the design on RVers who wanted more clearance.

I have put the spray stuff King Dome recommends on my KD, so far, no problems.  The spray is expensive ($24/can) but a coating is supposed to last 6 months.

I have occasional problems with my dish at home (not a dome) when there is heavy t-storm activity.  The storm gets in between the satellite and my dish and messes up the signal.

As to Rain-X, it says on the can not to be used on plastic.

Best Regards!

Ours was rained out also (clouds). Ususally during a Nascar Race or the end of a John Wayne movie.
We just use a reguolar dish.
