Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.


We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!

Hello Everyone,

I am new to this board and to RVing. I have been scouring the net for information on RV's and what it will take to become a full timer. I am solo and looking forward to early retirement at the end of 2008, selling my house, taking my dogs and moving on to the next chapter of my life on the road.

I realize I have much to learn and am looking forward to learning from you as I will have many questions.

Years ago I had a converted van and did a fair bit of camping. This is my only experience RVing ... I have looked at a number of RV's and seem to gravitate towards Class A's as I am thinking of being a full timer.

This seems to be an excellent site that is well organized and user friendly.

Welcome aboard! Whereabouts in Saskatchewan are you? I spent a year in Saskatoon a long time ago filling in for U. of Sask. faculty member who was on sabbatical. Very cold in the winter, but usually sunny, and I loved it there.

Thank you for your welcoming words. I look forward to jumping right the forums to get to know you’ all.

I live in Regina, South of Saskatoon our winters are just as cold and accompanied by plenty of snow. In the mid sixties, I lived in Saskatoon to attend college.

In 1999, I took a leave from my government job to move to Laredo Texas. My first trip was for two years. I came back to Regina and in 2002; I took another leave and returned to Laredo. In 2003, I returned to Regina and resumed my position with the government. I will take early retirement at the end of 2008. The warm weather and no longer having to shovel snow in the winter was the deciding factor for me to retire in Texas.

I decided on full time RVing, as it will provide me with the freedom of mobility around the country.

Some vivid memories I have of a Saskatoon winter: Taking both car keys to the grocery store so you could leave the engine running while shopping; wading through the ice fog from all the running vehicles in the parking lot trying to find the car afterwards; no snowplows for the streets, but plenty of sidewalk sized snowplows to keep them clear; usually it was so cold when it snowed that it didn't stick to anything, and just blew away... People may think I'm nuts, but I enjoyed it...

I decided on full time RVing, as it will provide me with the freedom of mobility around the country.
As full timers we didn't retire "in" any state or province, we move around. You can also.

We have only spent a couple nights in Saskatchewan, but I found I really like Saskatoon Berry Preserves and am still hoarding a jar.

Hello Tim & Robyn, Speedhitch and bjoyce,

I do not mind a mild snowy day, if I can be inside next to a fireplace with a good book and watch the snowfall outside my window. It is the blizzards, icy road conditions, the 40 below days that have finally gotten to me. My current job has me on the road a few times a month and in those conditions I do not like to venture out, in fact I have to cancel many road trips in the winter because of weather.

When I was in my twenties, it never occurred to me not to venture out or be concerned if I was caught in those conditions. Somehow the older I get the less adventuresome (in poor snow conditions) I have become. Hence, I began thinking about the Southern part of the country where the sun forgets to go to bed! LOL

My first winter in Texas spoiled me. It was interesting though, when I knew I had to go on the road in Texas in the winter my first thought was "I wonder what the roads will be like" , I was still in the winter mind set from up North.

Saskatchewan is a pretty province with many lakes and trees especially in Northern Saskatchewan. I live in the Southern part of the Province a few hundred miles away from the USA border.

I will be making Laredo TX my home base and travel from there. I realize I do have the make a trip back into Canada for tax purposes, but I will be discussing that with Canada Revenue before my departure for the South. I know I need to get all my ducks in a road so to speak.

Welcome, my husband and I are fulltimers from Ontario and have been on the road since Aug23, 2004. Ottawa is our home base and it sure is cold by the time we can leave Canada as well as when we return. I envy you being able to retire in Laredo!

Sandra did you purchase your RV in Canada or USA? I am still researching MH and will likely purchase a Class A in the end. Not sure what brand etc.

Lois you would like Sask lots of trees further North, I live in the southern part of the province.

I have been looking through this site to know were to post some of my questions about MH and what to watch for when buying used or new.
