100th Anniversary of our National Parks...Are you visiting one?

August 25th is the centennial birthday of our National Parks system, and we are going to take that day off and visit Nabesco road in  Wrangell-St. Elias to celebrate.  I wondered if anyone else was planning to be in a park to commemorate the day?  Personally I love the National Parks system and am feeling a bit sentimental about the whole thing :)

Not sure we'll be in a National Park on the 25th. We did spend an entire week in April in National parks on vacation, lol, didn't plan that well at all. It turned out to be the week they were free to everyone to celebrate the 100 year anniversary ☺☺

Lol, we thought we were planning wisely, after spring breaks were done but before the summer rush. Oh well we still had fun, just had to deal with more visitors than expected.

Love our National parks.

National Parks are our favorite places to stay. Each has it's own personality and features, but all can make us proud that we have set aside such amazing places for public use.

We love using the senior pass which lowers camping costs to bargain rates. The average cost seems to run about $11.00 per night. Camping spots are usually dry camping with no electricity, but given the amazing locations and views it is well worth the effort.

If I had to pick our favorite place it would be anyone of the "Big 5" in the state of Utah. Last Spring we spent 7 weeks and experienced every kind of weather possible. We could easily have spent another 7 weeks and still not seen it all. It is a "bucket list" place.

We have just finished our 3rd year and we believe it will take us 10 years to cover all 59 National Parks. We keep collecting the stamps in our Blue Book but still have a long way to go.

We love the National Parks but will probably avoid them on the 25th. I'm sure there will be huge crowds. With the old fart pass we can enjoy them any old time and preferably during times with less crowds.
We did 7 National Parks last summer and enjoyed every last one.

We have visited 10 Natonal Parks and we'll over a dozen National Historic and Forest Sites while on our Alaskan Adventure this summer! biggrin

Don't ask us for a favorite as they all have a uniqueness and special place in our hearts, but we will have to tell you that seeing Denali in all her glory on a cloudless day, or flying in a float plane and landing on Twin Lakes in Lake Clark NP to visit Dick Pronnecke's cabin were two of the highlights of our trip!

P.S. Don't forget our friends to the North as they celebrate their National Parks 150th anniversary. Our trip also included Banff and Jasper which are truly spectacular and have great campgrounds to boot!

We are currently hanging out in the vicinity of Mesa Verde NP and we'll likely visit the park on the 25th (in spite of the crowds). I used to be a ranger there.

We are in Glendale Utah near Bryce Canyon Natl. Park and Zion Natl. Park but didn't go on the 25th. We were tired from our drive up here from Texas and missed the free day. We have the "old folks pass" so we just missed the big crowds and went to the parks later in the week.
