Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.

We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!

Bicycling with Health problem!

confuseconfuse As most know by now I have Congestive heart failure and COPD amongst body aches and pains! I read a topic of RVers looking for biking trails. I know most State parks have them and some suburbs of Cities have greenways w/bike trails..

This got me to thinking as I have a suspension style mountain bike with 21 gears that I have ridden a few times. My health doesn't allow me to ride it to much now as i get short of breath and it increases my pain level. I explained this to my cardiologist; his suggestion is to do what I can bear! The heat and humidity in TN. is almost unbearable from June until October; this kind of puts a dampner on my biking. I go to Walmart or a large store and exercise by walking; but sure miss being in the open air.

I just want to open up a discussion on what others do! I have been trying to get up at 5:30 in the AM to at least get a walk in before the heat of the day which starts about 7:00 am.

Pierre,

I had knee surgery playing college football and have no cartilage in my right knee. I took up biking when I was 50 & my wife & I love it. We have road bikes right now, but will switch out to hybrid bikes since they will be much better to take on the road & bike in Parks, etc. I'm up at sunrise and get my biking in then.

On the weekends, my wife & I walk (all low-impact exercise) anywhere from 5-10 miles.

Next month, I'm having a knee replacement, but I doubt I every return to jogging, but will most definitely keeping up a rigorous walking program, well as biking if feasible where we're located.

Get a free exercise App to download on your phone to monitor your mileage, calories, heart-rate, etc. There's a number out there. www.imore.com/best-runwalk-tracking-app-iphone

If you're in a confined space and cannot get out in heat, try yoga and/or other stretching exercises. You can burn calories and maintain cardio if you at least do 30-minutes per day. Again, there are some apps that can help you out in this. www.tomsguide.com/us/best-yoga-apps,review-2367.html

Good luck!
Tim

I know some with walking issues have a side-car motorcycle or a trike motorcycle. That way they get out and about and actually are moving a lot of muscles to roll it down the road.

Pieere - have you thought about getting an electric bike (they do have foldable models). When I had my hip surgery a few years ago, I had an electric trike (couldn't lift my leg high enough to get over the bar on a regular bike). It was great because it allowed me to pedal for exercise, but if I got too tired or in too much pain before I reached my destination, I could just use it on electric power instead.

I'd also suggest a moped, but those are too difficult to pedal like a bike.

Pieere, how about an indoor mall? Nashville has the Operaland Mall which is fairly large and I think they also have a Galleria Mall. There is also the Grand Ole Opera Hotel which has a very nice large lobby that is done almost an indoor garden. The larger open area might help lift your outdoor spirit better than a big box store. Just some suggestions since I understand how bad the heat and humidity can be in your area this time of year.
