Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.

We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!

RE: Millenicom Customer Accounts Acquired by Verizon

Are you goverment? or is the scam Millenicom was pulling on Verizon? Using federal goverment contract pricing to supply the public? That would make alot of sense why verizon shut them down..

I don't think Millenicom was scamming anyone.  I have a feeling that resellers ALL get the government (aka LOWEST possible) rate.

I think it's more of a verizon organizational issue (who supports WHAT accounts), but I don't know enough about it to comment.

I do think the fact that they were so successful, is more of a reason Verizon acquired their accounts.

However, as discussed, am I the ONLY one who's having these issues with being run from dept to department and getting NO

answers from VERIZON?

ALSO have NOT got any messages from my PANTECH290 now plugged into a pc, and running.

ALSO (btw) have not successfully connected to VZ via my pantech290 via my WiFiRanger for about 2 weeks. (Coincidence?  I think Not!)

cheers

Verizon did not acquire anything from Millenicom. They received a customer list, and are attempting to "sell" you NEW service..
Check out escapees thread.. and the messages from Verizon. In fact, if anything, They are distancing themself from them.

In the Government sales business, no one get's better pricing than the goverment.

Time will tell all..There is much more to this story.. the throttling, accounts, contracts, and timing are all funny.. I am sure the feds have a investigation going on as well. Or did ..

I hope I don't run into this when/if I swap my pantech over to Verizon..

That would imply that the accounts still belong to Millenicom.  My guess, Verizon acted within their rights under the terms of whatever contract they had/have with Millenicom. I still don't smell anything "funny". Any impropriety on Millenicom's part would surely have made news in the business community by now. Silence.... I stick with my original hypothesis.

Thanks everyone! I just received notice yesterday (via Millenicom device message & an email from Millenicom) my notice about the change.

We may just double our data with VZW, use our VZW tablet as the RV hotspot and let the Millenicom device take a break. If I need a booster, I am sure there are those here who can recommend what hardware will work to boost the signal.

That's $90 saved in the budget. We will be talking to VZW about their current deal today. We still have 1 phone under contract with them and will keep that for great travel connections.

Do you have ANY evidence of wrongdoing by Millenicom or Verizon?  Do you have any evidence of a federal investigation?  If not, be careful of your comments.

Government pricing/skew numbers etc doesn't mean much. When I had a company running we ordered a fiberglass material mix of carbon fiber and Kevlar from a supplier that had exclusive contracts with the government to supply this material to the builder of a component the government wanted. The people we ordered from said that while they had to keep X amount on hand for their contract, they would and could sell to other companies. We used thousand of pounds of this material with no issue from the government. So for them to have sim cards that have a government # associated doesn't mean much.

Seems funny to me ? .. Like I said . time will tell ?

Or maybe not ?. Just it being so quiet on the who problems,, seems funny to me ?.. I guess no one else wonder why they where shut down? We may never know if parties agree to keep it quiet?.

It's more than the goverment contract stuff ?... ( I have sold stuff off GSA contracts to non goverment accounts as well ?, lol )

And terry, this is all hypothotetical and alot of guessing ?.. Pretty sure everyone knew that?.. as I have no inside info to offer?

I think it would make a good movie.. and make up the ending?..lol

to those that just need light duty internet subbed out with WiFi......straighttalk(Walmart) has just put out a 4glte unit that contracts thru Tracfone(AT&T & Verizon) it breaks down to 10.00 per gig

they also have a GO unit that is under Sprint that the Gigs do not expire for a year.

its not for everyone but.....I use it because WiFi is prevalent almost everywhere as needed also using an external antenna increases it leaving the pay as you go gigs available when it is not.

I have operated this way for years and never really had issues........of course if your in the lower mid west or southwest it could be a problem.....

using tracfone increases your signal chances greatly......I keep a tracfone cell onboard for that reason...they use multiple providers to increase chances of service!!

Although this seems like the best economical solution, for me it wouldn't work because I need to be able to create a wifi hotspot so I can connect my computer for work.  For folks who are only using the internet for email, messenging and surfing, that would work very well as it can all be done on the Tracfone phone.

If hypothetical, how about putting your comments in the form of questions instead of statements?  And, I'm not sure that everyone knows that you were guessing.

As before, this thread has gone to a argumentative state and I have deleted a few comments.  If it occurs again, I'll close the thread.

Anyway, today I woke up the the Millenicom hotspot usage saying "0.0GB used (unlimited)" and Cycle ends 12/01/2014. We are using it as much as possible instead of our Verizon hotspot, just because. Did a Google+ Hangout today for over an hour and used over 1GB just for it. It is nice to have some extra bandwidth for the next week.

We never had a throttling condition. Could it be the location you were in? Our Millenicon hot spot is a little faster than our att phones though when used as hotspots. jfyi

Can you help us to learn more about the possible cell phone and internet plans out there for full-time teardrop campers like us? We will be hitting the road in April and will want to be able to use the internet for emails, blogging, etc. And we do want to be able to have cell phone service too. Any thoughts on this would be appreciated from you and others on the forum. Diane & Michael

Verizon has the largest coverage. They are also the highest cost. They are proud of their service.
