Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.


We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!

Lake Mead?

We're considering a 2-3 week stopover next spring as we leave AZ headed to central CA and thought it would be fun to see Lake Mead, never been there before and know very little about the area.  I've started researching all the different possibilities for camping and given how huge the lake is, not really sure where to concentrate my research.  Any advice?  We will need to be within good cell / data signals during the weekdays for my day job.  Prefer state/county/national parks or BLM land vs. the traditional RV parks.

Just FYI, due to severe drought Lake Mead is shockingly low right now. Marinas are out of the water, and it's likely that campgrounds which were at the water are now far from the water's edge. Just so you know :)

Steve and I volunteered at Lake Mead last winter and will be there again this winter. Cell service around the lake is hit or miss. Mostly miss! We love the area. It has been our experience that most visitors only see the area around Hoover Dam and miss seeing some of the most scenic areas of the park. Stuart's Point is a beautiful place to boondock but again there is no cell service. Valley of Fire, Nevada's first state park, is a must see if you're staying at Lake Mead. We left the middle of last April and the weather was becoming very warm!

Hopefully next year we will have some drought relief but it's not looking great I am not familiar with campgrounds in the area but recommend you call any place you find to confirm the water situation after February. Fingers crossed we get some steady rainfall this Winter.

 We loved Valley of Fire too, but we were the only ones with ANY cell signal and thats because we have a Wilson antenna and even that was spotty.

Given that we need cell / data during the week, it sounds like some of the BLM or State Parks are not going to work, looking at the Verizon coverage maps and it looks a bit "iffy". If you had to stay in one of the near by towns and spend just the weekends exploring, any thoughts on which area would be best? We are not gamblers, Las Vegas holds absolutely no appeal for us so I was looking at Boulder City or Bullhead City as possibilities to use as our base for exploring the area over a couple of weekends.

We enjoy Boulder City. It's a cute town and you're only a few miles from Hoover Dam and Lake Mead.

We also stayed at Boulder City at Canyon Trail RV Park. It was a good spot to tour the area from. A no frills park but that was fine with us.

We were at Stewart's point in early Nov 2013 and had 3 bars of Verizon signal. Here are the GPS coordinates N36.373986 W114.393082. When we left we followed the road paralleling the shoreline and intermittently lost the signal. There seem to be lots of places to boondock from Stewart's Point to Boulder City. A little exploration and you should be able to find a place with good signal and great views.

We stayed at canyon trail in Boulder City last my for about 10 days. It's a nice enough park and Boulder City is a fun town to explore.

We also stayed at Canyon Trail RV Park in Boulder City. We found it to be a great location for touring and had good cell and wifi. I agree that Valley of Fire is a "must see." However, cell service is nonexistent.

If you are a member of the Elks they have an RV park in Boulder City. It is $20.00 a night with full hookups.
