Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.
We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!
This is an inquiry related to how many hours/day/week people sit in front of television.
We got our first black/white 12" set in 1949. Our first color 19" set in 1957 ( WPAFB area) with only about 2-3 hours of color broadcasting a day.
The sets were on from early morning to late night. We did a lot of watching, but also used it for the sound/company.
RV camping in the 80's and early 90's was spent with other RV'ers interacting in discussions/games/eating/etc. As satellite reception became more availble in the 90's, it seemed people spent more time planted in front of the boob tube (us included).
The last few months have been spent doing the daily chores without much time for sitting around. Because of the seemingly endless things that need to be decided/accomplished I have cancelled the Dish. What TV I watch will be local offering. With the TV programing/commercials what they are I won't lose much time in front of the boob tube.
Aside from the endless chores, spare time is spent with what family is left, friends and neighbors. (friends include camping associates)
Everyone out there in the Dreams Community Forum appear to be having a great life doing what they enjoy, remember have a good time and think of us poor soles at home that haven't been able to wind things up, as yet, in preperation of joining you.
We gave our daughter and son-in-law all but two tv's in the house just last week ! The only reason we kept two, was to stage the house for potential buyers. After the house sells they can have them also, along with the rest of the furniture in the house.
When we told the kids we were selling the house and moving in an RV,they thought we were nuts ! Until we told them they could have all our STUFF, they then decided what a great Idea it is ! ??????

My guess would be 3-4 hours/day average. Some news in the morning, Britt Hume on Fox in the afternoon and maybe an old LAW and Order or Emeril Live. That is unless there is some big news going on..CSpan hearings to watch, Angels Baseball, or a good old movie. But the TV may be on for watching DVD movies OR for XM music on DirecTV.

We have three TVs in the RV (one for outside viewing). The plan was to get an automatic satellite system installed at Camping World. We decided to hold off on that ($1,400 plus $50 per month for Direct-TV). In reviewing our tv watching habits when we lived in a house we realized that we do not watch very much television. We can't even tell you what is on tv for any given night. We might watch 10 to 12 hours of tv a week. Sports is our biggy and most of that is on the network stations which we generally pickup with our regular antenna (however, not always clearly). Anyhow, we are just too busy doing things outside or working on our hobbies and are not sure we can justify the expense for satellite tv. We'll monitor the situation over the next couple of months while we are workamping in Nashville and decide after that.

We are fulltiming now and I must say that I could live without TV, even though we have 2 sets with Direct tv in our fiver. Now hubby has to have it....I would much rather be outside doing something walking our dogs or just doing things at the picnic tables such as drawing or painting, hiking, birdwatching or whatever. I may watch tv if something special is on but do like RV Today if I remember it in time. We do not even rent movies anymore.
We are strange, we don't watch TV. When we are in a campground with TV hookups we watch the Weather Channel. If we did have our own satellite TV reciever I would probably watch the Sci-Fi channel.
While we were working we didn't have time for TV so we didn't pay for cable TV. Our house was on the side of a hill and the hill blocked the local stations quite well so we got completely out of the habit. I remember many many times when someone asked if I watched a particular show the night before and when I said, "No", they asked what I watched instead and found it wierd when I said, "nothing". At work this didn't happen, many others did not have time for much TV watching in their lives either.
We did have cable internet and can't live without our internet connection now. We seem to fill our days quite well and can't see how we would have time to watch TV in addition to everything else we are doing as full-timers.
