Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.

We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!

Good Manners

I was excited to see that Linda and Howard have started this forum. I have tried to read all of the posts. I have over the past year read many RV forums. I will not mention the sites of these forums but will say that I have read the Big Name ones.

There are those very experienced RVers that have wonderful,good-stuff to say. They are helpful and their replies are good-hearted,what they feel is truthful and they are kind and thoughtful in their words.

On the other hand, I have read many postings that can be.....well, just rude. They may be very experienced in full-timing and rving, but they can reply to others in a very harsh, offensive manner. They know so much, and they are quick to let you know that.

So because of this, and being very new to the whole forum business, I usually don't post or reply in fear that someone will make me feel 'stupid' for asking a question.

So with that said, I hope that this forum is used by courteous, understanding people who have a lot of useful and knowledgable info to pass on to others!

From what I have read on this forum, it sounds like everyone is a person I'd like to meet. I hope it stays that way. From what I've read in Howard and Linda's web sites, they seem like a kind and courteous couple and I think that's what they want in this forum.... or I sure hope so!!!!

Ann & Tom,

Well said!!!!!  Thank you sooooo much!

We want this to be a place where everyone is comfortable asking questions.  We don't all have to agree with each other on the answers, but there is clearly a way to disagree with class and dignity.  We will do our absolute best to maintain the RV-Dreams Community Forum as a "safe place" for everyone.

I'm all for free speech, but we will restrict, admonish, and even ban members that are rude, crude, or just post in a way we feel is detrimental to the overall experience of this forum.

Sometimes it's good to be the king.

Hi Ann & Tom,

I know what you mean about the other forums. They are very informative & I've gotten some really good info from them. It's a good place to go for answers. Luckily others have asked or answered as I would've so I didn't get into the discussions either because of being leery of saying the wrong thing & rousing feathers. But for some reason I feel Howard & Linda's will be safe of the rude or arrogant comments & I feel comfortable to post.

So today was the first time I posted in a forum & this is my second one so I think maybe I should calm down, I don't want to over do it!

Thanks Howard & Linda!!

Well said. It would be nice to keep this more family orientated. I'd love to vote for "no political opinion talk" that just seems to create trouble.

It's also very hard to tell peoples emotions from text. A joke (many made by me) may not be taken as a joke to someone that you are replying to.

If we all keep that in mind, this forum will be great. If anyone starts anything, Howard can start up the ban bus!

I couldn't agree more.  I also read other forums and am hesitant to post a question because of some of the replies that I have read.  Afterall, we all have to start somewhere and forums should be a great resource to obtain answers not criticism.  Keep up the good work, Howard!

I agree that this forum can be a huge wealth of information that can be made easy to use. The key I have found from experience in other forums is to keep your comments on-topic and if you must talk about/to someone about off-topic stuff, just hit the private message button. By using this simple courtesy, we all will get what we want, a safe environment for communication, and a useful searchable tool with less bandwidth used.

This is my second post ever to a forum as well.  Like several others, I've been hesitant to post anything, for fear of ridicule.  There are numerous ways to disagree without turning the discussion into a contest to see who knows the most.  We can all learn from each other.  We just need to follow a paraphrase of the golden rule - "Speak to others the way you want them to speak to you".

I too say "Well Said" to all who have posted here.  Personally, I've not encountered any rude or crude or criticizing posts on THIS forum.  I have, from day one, always felt very free, to ask questions and show my ignorance or naivete' (sp?).  If I don't ask, how will I ever learn?  I say "I"...but I write for both my husband and myself.  Anyhow, we've received some really valuable information both on this public forum and from personal e-mails from those who wanted to say something to us that not everyone might be interested in.  I think, for the most part, people reading this Forum are all interested in the same thing .... RVing .... and are willing to help all of us "wannabees" and "newbies" with fair and honest answers.  I'm sure when we hit the road we'll run into some "know it alls" as well, but we can handle that.  We were in boating on the Great Lakes in a large boat for 17 years and even when WE had become very seasoned boaters....we met people who thought they could "teach us a thing or 2"...especially about the brand of boat we owned...but we learned to smile, thank them for their engaging conversation and walk away....knowing that what we had earned that right!!!!!  Conversely...we were always willing to help out fellow boaters who were wannabees and newbies and asked for our advice, help, or opinion.

Don't ever be afraid to ASK A QUESTION...no matter how dumb you're thinking it may appear to the seasoned RVers out there.  We learned that the ONLY dumb question is: "the one not asked" !!!  Any person on this forum who gives a curt, or rude answer to ANY question should be banned from this forum....as well as all RVing facilities!!!!

Best wishes to all of us.

Amen, Brothers and Sisters! I totally agree. I've seen some of the rude/crude stuff in other forums too, and it always reveals much to me about the person who says it and nothing at all about the person it's being said to. So I have no fear, especially in this forum, about asking 'dumb' questions. Hey! I came into this world totally naked, completely ignorant, and without any language skills, - I couldn't even walk! So I think I've done OK so far, even if I don't know much about RVing yet.

Thanks, everyone! This thread is like the icing on the cake. To be totally honest this is the first rv forum I came across and I have just stuck to it. I haven't looked at other rv forums yet. One thing at a time, as they say. I suppose we've all run across someone who's taken us the wrong way - but that's life. hmm.gifI've found that everyone here seems to appreciate the way this forum has been set up and Howard and Linda's guidelines and wisdom that go with it. I just try to give everyone the benefit of the doubt when it comes to people, be polite and encouraging. Then if its just too obvious you can't relate you have to walk away. The whole rv-dreams website is an invaluable source of information as well as the place where everyone seems to have a great deal of respect for others and a wealth of wisdom to share. Thanks again to all and especially to Howard and Linda. smile

I have been a reader of this forum for about two months. I have and still check out other forums but have not found a more friendly, helpful group of people yet. I've read lot's of the postings and go to the chat room frequently. You will not find any negative attitudes hear. H & L have people from all areas here, wannabe's, gonnabe's, FT and just investgating. Also many different ages. We have a great family on this site. Thanks Howard and Linda.

This is a delightful thread. I, too, have visited other forums and sometimes find interesting information on them but have been shocked at the rude replies some folks get. So glad it doesn't reflect RVers in general. Howard and Linda have given so much to us all and set the tone so well and we are grateful for the friends we've made and all we've learned.

Wow lol should have read all these great comments before I introduced myself, yet still like what I said, to let you lnow somethings about us may have gong to far, but I get the point now and will stay on topic, As for rude folks or political things I myself dont deal with its inappropriate. Also last thing i feel this is a great group where one could make life long friends, .

Which is what happens when new people don't read the guidelines and suggestions before posting.  If they had read those, they may have seen that Howard prefers that no one "revive" a post that is over 1 year old, but to start a new on instead.

Happens with new people all the time.
