Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.
We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!
We have a frayed cable on our bedroom slide and we cannot pull the slide out because we are afraid it will break and won’t go back in. It looks like the cable has rubbed against the metal hole and over time, the cable has frayed. We are in Arizona for the winter, currently in Tucson and then on to the Phoenix area until spring. I have two questions....
1. Has anyone experienced this problem, and if so, how was it fixed?
2. Any recommendations for reliable RV repair places in the Phoenix area.
We have an extended warranty through Wholesale Warranties so the work should be covered.
We don’t have that style of slide so can’t help you there. I use rvservicereviews.com when looking for RV service. We’ve had great service from mobile techs so far.
Frank be very very careful if you attempt the replacement. There is a aftermarket kit you can buy for replacing the cable. Hopefully the cable is on the near end of the slide and not the far end, near end you'll have more room to work. The main thing to lookout for is when pulling the new cable thru, is that on EVERY pulley wheel there is a guide you need to go UNDER that keeps the cable from coming off the wheel The job itself if the new cable doesn't slide out of the nylon sleeve when pulling it. Takes about an hour, if it comes apart and you pulled the old cable thru... 2-3hrs. I'm willing to be YouTube has a video on replacing the cable. good luck.

Thanks for the information - but this is not a project that I want to tackle on my own - I think I’d be in over my head. I did some research and watched a video and that’s why I made an appointment to get the work done. In the meantime, we are keeping the slide “in” all the time. We don’t want to get stuck somewhere with a broken cable and a slide that won’t come in.
