Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.
We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!
In the planning stage for a trip to Alaska next summeR. I have two dogs, a JackRussel and a Lab, which are pretty well trained. they are always on leash when out side.
My concerns are how will traveling with them restrict my adventure . They are ok to stay in the 5er for up to 4-6 hours. Have not tried more time than that. Would not leave them if temps were to get to high unless at a campground with electric hookups.
I would love to hear of problems/experiences others have had on Alaska trips With their pets.

A vet asked me one time if I would be taking my dog to Canada. I wasn't, but he said that Canada didn't recognize a three year rabies vaccine, only a one year if memory serves me well. This was way back last century but it might be worth checking out before you get to the border. I'm pretty sure this would be easy information to locate. Good luck and happy traveling.
We took our dog and only issue was the day cruises. We had to take turns as each cruise was over our 6 hour limit for leaving our dog. We found plenty of places for walking him and he went many places with us. Also in Denali I stayed with him while everyone else rode the bus for the day.
No issues with our vet papers at the borders.
Temps in the summer are plenty cool enough so that overheating of the dogs inside isn't a problem…at least the summer we spent up there was. Most campgrounds have electric at least…of the 30 odd ones we stayed in I think only a couple did not have full hookups…although it was just 30 amp in probably half of them…but as I said, A/C wasn't necessary at all for us, don't believe we had it on even once while we were up there…but we prefer open windows anyway as long as the temp is 70s or below. Most days we rarely exceeded the low 70s with overnight lows typically in the 50s.
