Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.
We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!
We are full-timers and we just purchased a water softener. I am wondering how those of you who have 5th wheels transport your water softener (basement, truck bed, etc.). What works for you?
I tuck mine into the forward corner of my basement. It rides there very securely. I was worried about it also, but it's very hard to tip it over when full of water. Been doing this for two years with no issues.

We moved today a short distance to a new campground, and because the basement is full, we put the water softener in a milk crate and tied it in the bed of the truck. Don’t know if that will work long term, but it did well for our short trip today.
Milk crates are very useful. Just make sure that wherever you carry it that you anticipate what might happen if you had to apply the brakes in an emergency. Whatever isn't secured against forward motion will be a potential hazard. In my basement, the water softener is against the front wall and wedged into a corner ... so it's unlikely to move much. If your milk crate is secured against moving forward in an emergency, then you are in good shape. IMO.

Front corner wall of the basement. One bungie around it about 3/4 of the way up. Never moves. I leave it full of water. No reason to drain it unless going in storage. That gives it even more stability and a quick stop will be taken care of by the corner wall.

Your RV plumbing will really thank you for using one. FWIW - All the water that goes into our RV, including the water used to flush the holding tanks, goes via the softener. Examining the fittings used to connect to the water bib before the softener shows a lot of mineral build up. Don't want that anywhere in the RV water system - especially with the plastic valves, etc.. Once it gets into the system its there for the most part, including the ice maker in the fridge. A very important and overlooked part of the necessities of RV life, IMO. 80% of the places we travel around the US and Canada the water tests "hard." Not just the SW or Florida, etc..
