Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.
We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!
My wife and I have decided to live fulltime in an RV. I have done extensive research for the past 9 months and we‘re finally ready to give birth to our life changing decision. We quickly decided on a fifth wheel and began our long journey to find the right one. We narrowed the search down to DRV, Luxe, and New Horizons.
We looked at several new and used units from those manufacturers. I decided DRV was the one to buy because of the frame and suspension as well as the fit and finish especially in the used fifth wheels we toured. New Horizones were just too heavy and too expensive. We eventually chose a 39DRSB3 because of the large front bath and relatively large front closet. The half bath will come in handy when we’re both getting ready at the same time and it will keep company from going through our bedroom to use the facilities. We decided to order a new one with exactly what we (think) we want because, as my friend so eloquently phrased, “why would buy someone else’s E-Coli then spend 10 grand to remodel it?”
Although I’ve owned Chevys all my life I’ve decided to purchase a Ram 3500 because it has a Cummins engine and tremendous towing capacity. I hope the 3500 has enough payload capacity to handle the pin weight. I have already posted my concerns on another thread here concerning tow vehicles.
Well friends, that’s our story so far. We’ll keep you posted.

Shouldn't you work out the numbers before you get the Ram? Lots of folks here will try to help.

As long as the 3500 your are looking at is a dually, you should be OK ... if it's a SRW truck, you'll be way over the Rear Axle Weight Rating and likely over on the GVWR as well.

I am a novice and my wife and I are planning to go full-time in 2019. We are also interested in the DRV 39DRSB3. The calculations can be confusing, but when I went through the numbers to determine the truck required, I could not get the Gross Axle Weight Rating for the rear axle to work for the 3500 dually with any safety factor. The rear axle always seemed to be the limiting condition when comparing truck capacities. I got the numbers to work to my satisfaction on the 4500 dually, so we went that way. I got the truck early (just last week) since I need it for some other jobs this summer before heading out next year.
