Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.


We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!

Blue Ox f'er hitch???

Hoping some of you out there can shed some light on this particular fifth wheel hitch. It is the Blue Ox Super Duty model 6200 that we would be installing in GMC Sierra 3500. Our RV service center in Huntsville AL recommends it but I can't seem to find many reviews online anywhere. Which leads me to believe its a relatively new model. It comes with a hefty price tag and I do believe you get what you pay for in most circumstances. Our fiver is a little over 14K GVWR and the Blue Ox is 20K capacity. Don't know if this is enough info but if any of you with more experience than us can shed any light we would certainly appreciate. confuse  We have been told this hitch would really cut down on the chucking back and forth we are currently experiencing.

Never used one nor seen a report on it.  However, as you have a very light trailer, IMO, a MORryde pin box on the trailer should solve the chucking issue for about half the price.  This assumes the current hitch in the truck is properly mounted and doesn't "rock" in the rails and has a solid connection to the king pin.  I.e. no "slop."

It also appears to mount to a goose neck ball and that likewise requires a solid mounting so it doesn't rock.  Even a little hitch movement will cause chucking.

All that said, it's a very interesting design, using rubber "springs" much like MORryde does and may well do a quality job for you; including, perhaps, adding some vertical as well has horizontal impact absorption which is always a good thing to protect the fiver frame.

Bill you are correct about the hitch mounting on a gooseneck ball. It came as part of the tow package on the GMC truck. One reason we are looking at the Blue Ox hitch so we can still pull a cow trailer.

 The ball mount then meets a specific need so that's a plus.  Too bad it doesn't come in a non-slider arrangement.  At least I couldn't find one.  Not needing to use the slider with the 8' bed 3500 isn't a problem as such.  'Just paying for something that isn't needed and more parts.

FWIW - The design is intriguing to me as I am a fan of the "rubber spring" system like MORryde pioneered. It certainly has more capacity then your trailer requires.  If you purchase it we'll be interested in a report.

Looks like a nice quality product. NOT going to help you with chucking as it only allows some minor cushioning in the up and down movement. Fore and aft movement is what you want to remove or control. What hitch are you using now? What truck?

Lot's of things can cause chucking, maybe look for the cause.

Curt makes an adapter,it is a rail that fits into your gooseneck hitch so you can mount almost any brand of 5th wheel hitch into your truck,i have one and it works great..check it out...

I'm also currently looking at blue ox but I'm open for other suggestions. Is it a good buy? Would like to know what hitch products you guys use for the RV.
