Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.
We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!
We have a 2014 New Horizon 5th wheel and need to remove our rear frameless window to get the new couch in. How difficult will this be and any suggestions on the process? Should I just hire someone from a local repair shop?
Thanks for your help.
Mike

If Your Dreams Don't Scare You...They're Not BIG Enough!!!!
You'll need 2 people at least to get the window out. Start by removing the valence…there are screws both at the top and the sides…at least on our 2012 Majestic there are. Once that's done there are some screws on the inside that hold the inside half of the mounting in place. Carefully remove these while somebody holds the window from the outside to keep it from falling out. Once the screws are out take the inside piece off and then it just slides out of the hole from the outside.
There's some foam sealing tape that NH uses to seal them…you'll have to replace that but I recommend using butyl tape instead of the foam stuff that NH installs. Clean the edges and put the butyl tape on and then reverse the removal process to reinstall.
Once the window is installed take an Xacto knife and remove the excess butyl tape from where it squeezes out. You'll have to repeat this step and (maybe) tighten the screws holding the inside piece of the mounting a few months later…and maybe a few months after that…as the butyl tape is basically rubber like and sort of oozes out. I used gray butyl tape because it was what I had…if I were to do it again I would look for black to make it less obvious.
The window will stick out a little farther from the fiberglass with the butyl tape…that's normal.
Removal and installation is actually reasonably easy as long as you have enough hands.
Our windows are the older ones they used…Heil or something like that is the name…I imagine that all frameless windows are pretty similar in construction.
You could get an RV repair guy to come do it…but it cost you 2 or 3 hours of labor so probably $300 or so. Having done it once with our repair guy down here when one of ours leaked…I would do it myself next time.
