Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.

We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!

Does anyone have Fisher Paykel dishwasher?

Our FP dishwasher leaks. Not bad, but some. It has a fat gasket (3/4 to an inch thick) around the top of the drawer. The gasket is attached with some kind of adhesive and the adhesive is dried and hard. Where the two ends of the gasket meet, the adhesive is particularly dry and cracked.

I ordered a new gasket from FP and they sent me the wrong one. I returned it and sent them a picture of the one I need. They called me today and told me that gasket is not a FP part. ???

Now what? Does anyone have a FP dishwasher and if you do, does it have a rubber gasket around the top of the drawer? The DW was installed by the previous owner in 2012. I looked on YouTube, but there is nothing there for an RV dishdrawer. The dw drawers for home use don't have gaskets.

Thank you.

We have a FP dish drawer that would have been installed in late 2006.  The model # is DS 603.  It has a thin black rubber flap that goes around the opening that the drawer fits into.  Otherwise, no gasket.  Do you have the owners manual that would provide a diagram and a parts list for the unit?  Ours also has installation instructions that could be helpful.  You may be able to download a copies from the FP website.  I found the model number on the lower left corner of the housing that the drawer slides into.

Hi Judy,

Our dw is model DD24S17. It has the thin black rubber flap around the opening, just like yours. We have the owner's manual and there is no round, fat gasket around the top of the drawer shown in the manual or the installation guide. I believe the dw was jury-rigged with the gasket. I just don't know why. We removed the gasket and the drawer slides in/out really easy now. I am wondering if it will slide open when we are driving down the road. Won't know until we take it out again.

My husband cleaned the filter. It was covered solid with something that looked like paper residue. We're thinking someone left a napkin on a plate and ran it through the dw. I doubt that would cause a leak though.

We are thinking the gasket didn't have anything to do with the leak, but we can't test our theory until we are on the road with a water hookup. The mh is sitting on a storage lot now. Can't call a repairman until we get on the road with a hookup.

I really like having the dw and it does a nice job cleaning the dishes. It is quieter than my home dw.

Linda,

Not long after we started using our unit it overflowed and gave us an error message indicating a leak. We found that the strainer over the drain was crusted over with something white that was probably causing it to drain too slowly. We eventually concluded that the crusty stuff was likely related to the hard water in Florida where we had been staying for quite a while. We contacted FP's customer service and they walked us through how to remove the drawer and dry out the inside and most importantly the sensor so that the error message would go away. Once we accomplished that it ran just fine. Lynn Asher (who is a member of this forum) recommended that we try using a product called Finish Booster (pink bottle) in addition to the Finish powdered DW detergent that our instructions call for. Since starting use of the Booster we haven't had any problems with the white buildup over the drain screen. I order it from Amazon since I've had trouble finding it in local stores.

That said, we continue to have some problems with overflow that we think may be related to user error. We have never figured out for sure exactly what it is that we're doing wrong. It seems to happen if we start a load and then open the drawer to add something extra to the load. When we re-close the drawer we think it might be starting the wash cycle over again and therefore over-filling the drawer and overflowing. This has happened a number of times since the original incident. We no longer add anything to the load once started. This is the only issue that we've had with it and most of the time it seems to do a great job. We really like it.

With regard to the drawer coming open while traveling, the original owners of our rig added drawer handles on the wood surfaces above and below the drawer that they used to attach a heavy bungee cord that secures the drawer in the closed position. We put dishtowels under the bungee at the top and bottom to prevent any potential scratches from the hooks or the cord. This seems to do a good job of keeping it closed while traveling. We use a heavy black rubber bungee that doesn't have a lot of give to it.

Happy travels!

Thank you, Woody, for responding.

My dishwasher hasn't leaked since my husband cleaned the filter!
