Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.


We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!

Not sure what you are asking.  Does your furnace ignite, is your blower working, etc?

If your heater is a standard RV heater with no modifications, it operates on propane only. It needs 12 volts DC for the thermostat, controls, and fan motor, but heat is propane only.

 Just to be clear ... you are talking about the heater for the interior trailer air temp.  If so, then what Rob said.

If you are talking about your hot water heater, then that's a different subject ... I ask this because the hot water heater is the only one that operates on either Propane or Electric.

If indeed you are referring to the hot water heater instead of the furnace for heating the RV, then look in the area outside for the hot water heater and see if there is a small on/off switch against the back wall of that compartment.  It may be behind some of the plumbing and wiring that is in that compartment.  If that switch is off, I think it is the "master" switch.  On our fifth wheel, we have that switch outside as well as a second switch inside.  The inside switch is there to allow one to switch back and forth between gas or electric, or in some cases, to turn both on at the same time.
